This saturday at the regional HMGS-PSW convention, I am running a large 20mm (1/72) FOW Ver3.0 MRB post war (May 1945) scenario. Called Operation Overcast to somewhat cover the planned activity on the tabletop, this scenario is unlike the typical WWII tabletop battle.
Included and interacting on the 16x6 tabletop, the Americans and Soviets start as "friendly but trigger ready" allies. But the reality on the ground with the search for advanced German technology, prototype designs, scientists, designers, technicians is causing "forceful" conversations between JIOA and NKVD teams. Some event, or heated discussion likely, will lead to actual shooting when pressed to give up or seize the technology or captured research brains. Once shooting starts both sides will summon their heavy supports, leading to escalation of conflict.
Scenario includes: American and Soviet late war equipment and units, German refugee columns, German scientist or technician teams (even Wernher von Braum), ex-prisoner labour teams from Camp Dora, hidden die-hard SS teams, General Kammler, Gestapo, and former Camp Dora prison guards. The advanced German hardware technology is represented by actual models placed on the tabletop to examen. There is even a Mittelwerk mountain for the V-2 factory, V-1 launch ramp, advanced panzers like Maus, aerodrome for the aircraft models, and a reduced Kummerdorf testing ground. Rare for WWII gaming… electrical transmission towers terrain features on the table.
Check out the preparation report and updated text for more details. The scenario notes .doc file (9 pages) covers the design, set up, and deployment for scenario,
