Middle Earth is based upon the British Isles map turned upside down and with its shape exaggerated by distortion.

Well, that's the trip I'm on!

The Kent area is top left, the south coast is north and runs into Devon and Cornwall. The upper left bulge is East Anglia, Scotland to the south and the Shetland and Orkney Isles bottom right. Wales and Anglesey are to the right. The Wirral. It's all there!

Ignore Ireland – DONT EVER IGNORE IRELAND I know, I know!

You do see it don't you!!!

That's the MERP map, and as far as I know they pretty much made it all up, based on the original maps Tolkien did draw which would be the upper left corner roughly framed up to where Mordor ends.

Westeros in Game of a Thrones is Ireland turned upside down and stretched.
It's very common in wargaming Imaginations campaigns. Why re-invent the wheel??

Yes, I noticed that with the GoT map.

I have gamed a Napoleonic campaign using a map of Ireland divided into France, Prussia, Austria, and part of Russia. That worked.

Yup, why re-invent the wheel?

I dunno. If you flip it on its side and turn it 37.45 degrees, its clearly New York City, with Mirkwood as Central Park.
