Gorgeous minis, shame about that bent bayonet…

Gorgeous painting, but a silly composition. Ignoring an enemy at your feet still alive ?!

WillieB26 Sep 2017 7:07 a.m. PST

As often seen on gorgeously painted figurines like this.
Indeed silly composition. The bent bayonet, the overly thick sergeant stripes, the way too tightly fitting rifle belt. The Afghan's feet are enormous and his pants aren't all that well painted either IMHO. Now I'm a great believer in less harsh shadows and highlights, but this is probably a little 'under- cooked'

Would be good to see some of the work from those critical of this little diorama. Speaking for myself, I reckon it's a pretty fine effort. As for bent bayonets- I remember reading that British infantry in the Sudan were plagued with poorly produced bayonets that bent easily – no doubt somebody had received a little financial incentive to overlook shoddy weapon production.

That's a Yataghan sword bayonet. It's curved on purpose.

Glad you like it boys!.

My point was more that with all the effort put into the paint, why didn't the artist spend the time to get that bayonet straight?

On a good day I can get skin to look like that, but the hell with painting tartan!

Murvihill27 Sep 2017 9:42 a.m. PST

Again, that's a Yataghan Sword bayonet. Yataghan blades are bent away from the muzzle of the rifle to avoid the blast. A quick google will show what I'm talking about. (Unless you're teasing me in which case congratulations on your success.)

Lion in the Stars27 Sep 2017 2:54 p.m. PST

Yeah, I've seen the yatagan bayonets. The blade is straight in line with the hilt, but the spine of the blade curves away from the muzzle. Kinda like a kukri, just not as extreme.

Look at the pic Armand posted here again. That blade is bent, it is not in line with the hilt. Particularly, there is a curl at the tip that would make it impossible to thrust with the bayonet.
