I've always been drawn to the kind of space combat you'd get if the old TSR Buck Rogers game had minis rules. It's just the solar system with Mars, Venus, Earth, the Moon each having fleets… pulp stuff. What games should I be looking at? |

I wonder who would make spaceships for that? Conversions from toys is all I would be able to come up with: link Dan PS. Eli Arndt did a few scratchbuilt ones out of wood bits that I was impressed with:

Dan, Do you have alink to Eli's post or blog? Dave |

Dave I don't know what's happening to my wifi today, but this is the link I had for his scratchbuilt work: link His pictures should be there, but they aren't loading up for me* right now for some reason. You might have better luck, I hope. Dan * Or maybe i finally broke the Internet. :) |

The pictures don't load for me either. It's all your fault Dan!

Leidang is right. War Rocket is what you want. |

I will also recommend War Rocket. It is a complete game system with rules and fleets. Great stuff. In addition to Irrational designs on shapeways there are several other sulptors who make pulp rocketships. |

Milord, while I have mixed feelings about War Rocket itself, it is the only game system of which I'm aware that does pulp as completely as it does. Mind, almost any of the simpler rules can be adapted to play quite satisfactory. I shall refrain from my usual fanboy rant about my particular favorite. ;->= As for Eli's great work, please note that's a Traveller ship, and doesn't really match pulp, though as an example of relatively simple DIY, he did do a masterful job! If you scroll down the page, you'll find links to other blog entries with piccies that DO work. Doug |

Whoops! "simpler rules" as in simpler-side of rulesets available in abundance. Did not wish to imply War Rocket is particularly complicated, nor that there is a simple version of it. Doug |

Thanks for all the feedback! I didn't know about war rocket and will look into it. |

Take a look at Minifigs spaceships too….very "pulpy" : link

I wonder if this would be too difficult to do with wood pieces like Eli did. The "waisted" (flared?) piece for the back half of the ship could be the hardest piece to find. Dan

Has anyone tried out the Star Crush rules or miniatures from Cruciblecrush.com? They look plenty pulpy to me. |
TheBeast | 29 Sep 2017 7:41 p.m. PST |
Bought some, but have yet to see paint, or even try the rules. I thought they would work well with Star Wars, and I think folks talked about creating their own builds for X-Wing. And, while some SW stuff feels pulpy, I didn't feel that with the Crush models I bought. Doug |

War Rocket, looks great for that Buck Rogers theme. Just a suggestion: if you want 'more ships for less' dont use the 'big' ships. simply use the smaller size's "As" the main warships to suit your own story line. After all, its "your game". Shapeways is an amazing but, I just cant get past that: "Has grainy feel to it". I know its the WSF (white soft flexible) material they use. @earlofwessex, have you looked at Agents of Gaming? If your looking for 'flying saucers'. There is a site that still has some of B5 Fleet Action Minis. You might try this, if it wont 'link' try to copy it to your browser. agentsofgaming.com/opak.htm Best of luck. |

If you check out agents of gaming, the flying saucers are the Vree |
