link Don't know what to think: how a ruleset could be simpler than Saga? I thought it was as simple as it gets. Apparently, I was mistaken |

It's a bit irksome that the existing rulebooks, and presumably the battle boards, will be made redundant, but I can see the reasoning behind a tidying up and revisiting overpowered factions (Irish!), and underpowered ones (Anglo Danes). In doing so having a core rulebook and then era specific expansions makes sense. I approve of keeping the distinct eras separate without having to make them balanced against each other – the danger of ending up in a Rus Princes vs Welsh matchup is the main reason I never entered a tournament. So, I'm actually in favour, as long as they don't go full GW and do it all again in a couple of years! |

Great…bought into it recently and now my purchases will be made obsolete. |

It was due. They claim it will be relatively inexpensive. Oh, and the Irish are no longer overpowered since the 2016 errata. I guess THAT (statement of yours) alone is proof the new book is needed. |

Thank you for the link to the interview, Basileus. Very helpful. It is a wee bit frustrating to read that, "Aetius & Arthur . . . will remain in the range and won't be replaced. When Saga is released, we'll make available the necessary amendments to bring it up to date." So, Aetius and Arthur will be the sole "universe" dependent on independently printed errata. My understanding, based on previous posts about that particular supplement, was that it had some serious need of re-editing. Perhaps someone familiar with that volume can share whether that is true. I was seriously considering the investment until I read that. Thankfully, Dux Brit and Dux Bellorum are great games covering the same period. |

Go to the link and read the content. Simplifying the game was mentioned: "We have improved certain mechanisms, simplified others, and rearrange the layout. The changes are numerous, and amply justify a new edition." Also….."I think that this new version is easier to learn…." The new version looks as if it will make everything in the old versions obsolete, other than the scenarios. I hate this. I just bought into the game and other than my unpainted figures, the rest will be useless to me when the new version comes out. |

Unfortunately any new edition of any game will penalise those who bought material the most recently. Of course, you are perfectly free to carry on playing the version you prefer. I know people who are happily playing WFB 8th and 40k 7th, ignoring GW's last upgrades. |

Mind that I am not critizising they release a new edition. I am happy with what I have, though. Except if the changes are a real improvement, I don't believe I will invest in buying the new edition and extras. For the moment, I will wait and see. |

It says that the old battleboards will still be usable with some tweaks, and nobody is forcing you to buy the new edition. |

This was kind of unavoidable. There were already some pretty big differences between the Dark Ages and Crescent and Cross rule books, and not all of them were aligned in the FAQ. And then there were some changes made to the rules, like the Irish mentioned above, and priests had a major rewrite. Lots of little ones too that you would only get if you knew to look for them. Everybody that is buying into the game now is buying obsolete stuff as it is. So I have no problem with them putting out a set of definitive rules and then bringing all the old battleboards into compliance with the new rules. I'm a bit nervous about the new and surprising tweaks that they have in mind because we might just be starting the process over again and we will have to FAQ the new tweaks that mess things up. So we will just have to wait and see. |

My guess is it will be a clean up of the rules with a couple of new rules to make it "worth" buying the new book. Hopefully we can convert the old boards as I would rather not buy new rules. I enjoy the game as is so will continue to play it. Hopefully meshing it with the new stuff will be easy to figure out. Joe |

I love saga, actually saga is the only non gunpowder anything I do….. I did however think the constant new battle boards caused a lot of 'sloppy gimmicky-ness'. But…….. the gimmickyness is what made this so much fun to play. I thought some of the factions really weird to fight against. I.E. Norman's, (I love Norman's) vs pagan Rus). Oh Christ it's winter again!!!!! And the Irish, rolled my eyes as vegetation hurled lethal "bits and bobs" at my saxons/Anglo/Danes. Irish? Nah, we go back to the boats and go to Wales instead------- revenaunts and skraeling? Nah, back to the boats my sons! |

PLEASE don't make us buy new dice sets. I am all in favor of the new edition of the rules. |
