Official forum seems a bit quiet and I can't start a topic on the TMP Rules Forum for Dux so I thought I'd ask the question here .. Any help appreciated.
Put on the first game of Dux Bellorum for the Bognor Regis Wargames Club, very well received and we had an excellent evening's gaming doing the Battle of Cynuit – this time the Vikings held the Saxons attempt to break out of the siege…
The game raised a few questions that I don't think have been addressed elsewhere:-
1. Group wheel. I assume you measure the straight line distance of the furthest corner of the group moving, practically this means that a foot group (even of two units) cannot generate the 90 degree maximum wheel and this is only possible for mounted ? It also means that a 3 or 4 unit group can wheel less of an angle than a 2 unit group, because the outer corner has further to travel. Have I got this right ?
2. In missile fire, you get a +1 Aggression bonus for firing into the rear. Where is the rear defined, everything else refers to flank/rear – is this an error ? We took the 45 degree sighting arc at the front for target priority/uncontrolled charge determination and just applied it to the rear. Any unit firing from entirely within this arc got the bonus.
3. Unit movement. Try as I might I cannot make sense of the statement that a unit may about face for 1BW 'as this is more efficient that other turns to the rear' The diagram shows an individual unit can move 4BWs in any direction with no penalty, so where is the efficiency ? This feels like a holdover from Units perhaps needing to wheel from an earlier version ? I would appreciate an explanation of what I am missing here.
Thanks in advance,
Mark Barker
