worth the cost? Inspired by this thread in Terrain and Scenics: TMP link |

I mostly buy MDF kits these days. The cost is fine for me. Simple ones for 'tarting up', largely for 28mm. I sometimes buy prepainted MDF building kits if the building is right for me. My smaller scale buildings are usually resin although I have a few in MDF. I may have the odd plastic building in my collection. |

I think so. The MDF buildings produced by Crescent Root are beautiful and functional. |

Yes. The is a wide variety of different price points/detail in MDF as there is in other materials. |

Absolutely, you just have to pick and choose what you need. |

The price is a bit much for me. But that is a personal preference. I'm also not very keen on how they look, Again personal preference. |

Since I need access to interiors, they are my best option. I us resin in 6mm if only because almost no one makes MDF kits in 6mm… |

I have three favorite building manufacturers that I tend to purchase from: Crescent Root, 4Ground, and Miniature Building Authority. MBA looks the best but they are really expensive and they are not MDF. Crescent Root and 4Ground are MDF, are simple to build and look good without modification. So to me, based upon my situation, skills, etc., yes MDF is absolutely worth the cost. |

Resounding yes! Things From The Basement and Sarissa are super prices for good kits. Crescent Root are great value for prepaints. 4Ground pricier, but if they have something specific for my needs, I'll buy it. And not buildings per se, Crossover Miniatures' airships are well worth the price. Easy access to interiors is a must if I'm buying for 28mm. I'm getting these to play dollhouse after all. With very violent dolls. ~,~ |

Yes if for no reason than no one else makes similar buildings in other materials. |

For what I wanted the cost was ok. Some large buildings would have been a big chunk of resin if even available. Cleanup is easier and wood glue is all I use for them. Most of my mdf has come from gamecraft or ttc. |

Nope. Too fragile and, in most cases, way too ugly. Yes, a few people make them look good. Mostly they stand out and say "look at me, I'm ugly." However, the most cogent reason I've ever seen is here in this thread – they are light. I guess for those who must always travel to have a playing surface MDF is a good choice. I still don't like them. My biggest concern is that they reduce the offerings in resin, my personal preference, Crescent Root a case in point – they dropped there 15 mm resin in favor of MDF. Lost a potential customer. To each their own. |
