TMP link I'm thinking of taking advantage of Shapeways's offer before it ends this Sunday. I do have a question about their products printed in "frosted ultra detail". I've read responses from people who have ordered miniatures printed in that medium that claim the final product comes out cleaner and with crisper detail than the "strong and flexible" option. Of course, I understand that either choice will not be as detailed as a conventional metal or plastic miniature. Has anyone here ordered minis printed in either option from Shapeways? Which would be your preference between the two choices? Thank you, all! |

If there's only a few dollars difference then I usually opt for the FUD. I find the Strong Flexible to be less likely to break but a royal pain to achieve a nice smooth painting surface. FUD has a bit more detail but the advantage for me is that I don't have to spend hours trying to smooth a grainy surface. FUD is more brittle and I tend to snap off parts unintentionally during cleaning and prep. From my experience, FUD is not immune to printing error such as stepping/scaling. Kevin |

Ditto all the above. I choose FUD unless it breaks the bank or there are very spindly parts I don't want breaking off. |

These are in FUD: link Personally, I find FUD and FXD to be far superior for minis. WSF is okay for larger pieces where the grain is less notable. |

Most of these are FUD apart from the painted russian biplane which is finished WSF flic.kr/s/aHsjGtTPvR The last photo is a comparison of FUD and WSF |

Thank y'all for the responses, fellas! It looks like I'll be ordering in FUD. Again, I appreciate it! |

Personaly FUD is hopeless. But I am a wargemer so handeling comes with the territory and FUD is just plain impractical in my experience. At wargames ranges the surface finish is just so much hot air its not possible to tell. If you want to play WSF, if you want to model FUD. The two are mutually exclusive. |
