Ive been using histoire & collections french imperial guard for uniform reference and very helpful it is too. For the fusilier grenadiers and many other of the middle and young guard, there is a vanguard page associated with each unit consisting of a drummer, sapper, drum major and musicians. Why are the officers not listed on the page, are they not part of the vanguard? And why are the grenadier and chasseur a pied not listed with a vanguard? The histoire & collections series is currently my only reference so it could just be how the books are set out or they have made mistakes etc Its just something id like to know rather than spend time wondering about it :-) |

I am not familiar with the series to which you refer, but as I recall, Officers of the middle and young guard were drawn from the Old Guard Grenadiers and Chasseurs, and wore their uniforms, but with shakos of the middle or young guard. More likely, however, is that the "Tete de Colonne" would usually only be sapeurs, drum Major and musicians, drum master and drummers from the infantry companies. GdeP |
