I am interested in a single book covering dogger bank, falkands, etc. Any ideas?I don't mind moderately detailed or fairly high level, nothing 3000 pages long with a lot of footnotes though :) |

Any ideas?I don't mind moderately detailed or fairly high level, nothing 3000 pages long with a lot of footnotes though :) That's a pity, I was going to recommend "From the Dreadnought to Scapa Flow" Arthur J. Marder ;-) It's 5 volumes and covers the war in great detail. Try "Castle of Steel" by Robert Massie. 850 or so pages. Covers the Anglo-German arms race and WWI at sea. |

"Coronel and The Falklands", Geoffrey Bennett. "The Battle Cruisers at the Falklands", Rudolf Verner B

I'm also looking for these books but I'll throw on another request if I can: What books are out there on naval strategy or tactics up to WW2? Something not tied to specific battle plans if possible, but looking around so far those may be my only option. |

I was going to suggest Massie(?), 'Castles of Steel. Very good, but long. |

For WWII try "The Great Pacific War" by Hector Bywater. It's the book that actually inspired the Japanese strategic thinking. |

Striker, I found If Mahan Ran the Great Pacific War to be an excellent read: link Jim |

Another vote for Marder. And, used with caution, both the British and German official histories have a lot of information. |

Another vote for Marder. And, used with caution, both the British and German official histories have a lot of information. Also, Halperin's books are good as well. |

A worthy reference on naval tactics is "A History of Naval Tactics from 1530 to 1930"; RAdm. S. S. Robison USN; USNI Press. It is about 900+ pages, but written in a very readable and cogent fashion. Quick rundown of contents here - link Highly recommended. B |
