Thanks to a Tweet I happened to see on Twitter, I've found a great cheap water effects technique that worked well for a small terrain piece. Let me know what you think!

Wow, what a good trick. Your result looks like a very muddy pool of water. I'm supposing that varying the base coat in the bottom will result in different water colors.

Thanks,

Jim

I used the water mix from Scenic Express, not cheap.
It took 48 hours to dry but looks good. I just mixed in a small amount of brown paint, muddy water.

As an added saving, here in the US go to Dollar Tree where they have a two-pack of white glue (dries clear) for $1. USD I use them all the time – just as good as Elmer's and cheaper.

@ColCampbell – the base coat under the glue was Mississippi Mud by Americana (cheap hobby paint)

@wrgmr1 – I experimented with adding some drops of ink to the Elmer's Clear Glue – it seems like it would work fine. And the Clear Glue is a lot cheaper and dries fast under a light.

@Tom – I was paranoid about how clear the white glue would dry, it can come out cloudy at times. The Clear Glue for sure dries clear as glass.

Very good idea!

just had a look on ebay – £11.54 GBP for 5fl oz. I guess if you shop around you could get it cheaper.
For 16 fl oz of woodlands scenic realistic water it costs £20.00 GBP

@bombersmoon – Clear Elmer's Glue, at least local for me in the US, is the equivalent of £2.22 GBP. It's nice to have cheap alternatives!

Transparent caulk etc will work better as it will not shrink.
