I want to add plumes to the shakos some of my plastic 1/72 Napoleonic figures. I've never done anything like this before so I'm looking for the easiest and cheapest method. I've never used "green stuff" or done any sculpting. I was thinking about using a hot glue gun. A plastic extruder pen seems a bit expensive. All suggestion welcome.

Pin thickened with PVA? Worked for me in 15mm.

Pin with green stuff added is by far the easiest way that I know of. PVA glue would be too thin I think for 1/72 plastics.

Crumpled bit of paper? Will stick and stiffen up with PVA or SG.

"Pin with green stuff added" is what I would do.

Using green stuff is just like the modelling clay you probably used as a kid. Except it dries rock hard.

Ditto Hot pin and then Greenstuff or Fimo. I believe Tony Barton uses the later for his sculpting.

Don't forget pipe cleaners.

Round wooden tooth picks with pointed ends – you get two plumes out of one stick. If it is the "rubber-like" plastic of some HÄT-figures you don't even need to drill a hole first, just press in and cut to length. Normally I don't need glue.

Another vote for a metal 'pin' and greenstuff.

I have 18mm figs in metal.

I drill a small hole in the hat, insert a wire 'pin' and fix with 2-part epoxy because the top of the fig is likely to take punishment.

Sometimes its easier to use a longer pin than needed, because they can be fiddly, in which case it can be cut to length now.

Then push the greenstuff into shape on the pin and with a scalpel cut into the plume to give it a bit of texture.
