I printed out a test of some 1-285 scale Italian armor and it turns out the right FDM machine with the right materials will actually make them. Here is a picture of my test model print and a shot of the model in CAD.
This is the model in CAD and here is the photo of my test print.
When you photograph them close up it shows all the warts but I have not done anything to clean them up yet and when you are holding them in your hand I assure you they look very good indeed. |

Are you using polyester Co-Fabb? I switched to that for my FDM prints and it changed what I could print dramatically. |

I am using PLA with my machine tuned to give solid results. The proper settings make a huge difference. Here is one of the models cleaned up.

Give it a spray of grey undercoat, it wiil photograph better then. |
