I think the hills would look better if the foam slopes were in line with the hardboard edges. |

Thanks guys. Another store has some hills like that Jim, they have a lot of damage on those edges right where the two materials meet. These were set back to try to avoid that. |

Welllllll, if we're commenting, I like hills with more slope to them. But I like what you have done and I do understand the practicalities |

Fine job and excellent tabletop presentation. Like the lower edge edge to protect the hill base from damage and gives a nice out slope look. Your "modular" hills concept follows the hills which our club and myself made back in the 70's from plywood. Still in use these 40+ years later and can hold any body weight placed on a wargame table. Once a car drove over several pieces laying flat on the ground, left no damage. Every few years a new coat of edge and flat surface flocking applied…. now several layers of "flocking depth" for effect, Some of the common shapes. More in the collection to cover a 16x6 table two layers deep if needed. The only drawback is the weight so not the best for travel games but for at home, or at the warren gaming, not a problem. Common edges are 12" or 6" lengths using a 5/8" thick plywood sheet.
The plywood hill slope pieces in use. The regional convention game for the Battle of Dego 1796 shows several layers of slope on the tabletop. More photos here: link

When I started wargaming, over 50 years ago, there was little, if any, commercial terrain available, so we made our own. The link to my website below shows some of it, including the modular hills which I made. link The paint has needed a bit of touching up over the years, but not too much. Rod |
