Been a few years since I played 15mm fantasy. Any new rule suggestions for mass 15mm fantasy rules?

Piquet Hostile Realms, Hordes of the Things, Warmaster, Pride of Lions are a few.

Sorry to sound ignorant but what is BBDBA? Some derivative of DBA ?

Fantasy Sword and Spear
Kings of War(work well with 15mm and is a good system)
Free on line version of Hail Caesar
Imputvs Fantasy

All play well.

I love 15mm fantasy

When people recommend BBDBA, presumably they mean the DBA rules for bigger battles using some fantasy amendments adapted from Hordes of the Things (HoTT). HoTT was based on DBA 2.0 or similar, so the rules do not quite line up with the more recent editions of DBA.

HoTT also has more vanilla troop distinctions, so some people like the finer granularity of DBA troop distinctions mixed with the new fantasy units and rules of HoTT.

I am partial to Pride of Lions. It is easy to learn, fun and quick to play,. and has lots of levels to it for complexity. link

Hostile Realms and Pride of Lions

Thanks gents, last time we used KoW which works fine but I was hoping for a few less buckets of dice and a unit builder, Going to look into some of your suggestions.

Looking hard at Mayhem which has a unit builder. Those rules look pretty interesting. Especially the Overdrive mechanism. They are by Brent Spivey.

I am also slowly converting Hostile Realms into a Pulse of Battle variant. Not really a Piquet fan when compared to Field of Battle. Hostile Realms was created when FOB had only been out for a little while. Otherwise it would likely have been complete FOB. I wish it had been.

Armies of Arcana I also like. I just use it for my 28mm.

Both Hostile Realms and AoA have DIY sections. But no army builder.

Thanks.

Hostile Realm is a decent set of rules, I was part of play testing and doing some rules contribution for it after all. :)
The biggest weakness are the many tables and the time it takes to play and prepare a decent battle, but it plays really well and the card mechanic is very good.

My favorite fantasy game (to date) are otherwise Sword & Spear Fantasy since it is both fast and with a very deep tactical nuance. The best thing is that it is over in 2-3 hours and there are little to no waiting which keeps all players involved at all times. It has good Command & Control as well as "Fog of War" in the same manner as Hostile Realm or the other Piquet rules, just a bit more streamlined.

I think that games like Warmaster and Kings of War (even Armies of Arcana) are foremost games and not battle simulators like say Piquet and Sword & Spear are.

If you want a game that is more of an ancient/medieval strategy game that also simulate more realistic conditions with "Fog of War" and "Command & Control" then S&S or Hostile Realms are for you.

If you are more after a mind game where you can more reliably calculate the odds and analyze things and keep control, the games like Kings of War or Warmaster are for you. They also are more tournament friendly.

When I mean bbdba, I do not mean HOTT, I just made up so me house ruleadaptations such as giants being Artillery for nissile Use and as blades when in close combat. Undead get quick kills against everyone except heros, generals and wizards. Heros are generals attached but have no pips. Dragons are just flying warwagons, and wizards are generals who allso allow a unit to function as artillery. Everything else can be distilled into standard unit types.

I love Warmaster, but – oh no! – am also a fan of Warhammer Historical, which I always wanted to convert to Fantasy. But wih conversion, I meant "slightly", so no herohammer, but ancient battles with monsters and magic!

Kealios07 Sep 2017 6:25 p.m. PST

I'm a fan of Mayhem. Warmaster gets more play locally, but as I get others into my evil clutches…errr gaming circle, I plan on pushing Mayhem more :)

Mighty Armies… Use multiple armies per side if you want to go bigger.
Kings Of War gives a good game.
Mayhem looks good but alas- none of my locals have any interest.
