Looking for someone with graphic design skills to make the Diagrams for my miniatures rules, and to make them presentable for publication.

Happy to pay for such professional help.

emckinney29 Aug 2017 7:23 p.m. PST

How elaborate do they need to be? Color?

Topic of the game? Do you need someone who can do illustrations/art of figures, or more like rectangles for massed units?

Warfare Rules29 Aug 2017 7:48 p.m. PST

The Rules cover a wide period (3,000BC to 1,850AD), they are Element based with the standard 2 figs per base for Skirmishers, 3 per base for Mounted and loose Foot, and 4 per base for close Foot.

My preferred option would be Colour Silhouette style, depicting different troop types such as Infantry, Cavalry, Artillery, Elephantry etc

Fairly simple but with some colour, and basic troop types clearly illustrated.

I can do diagrams for sure, but I'm not an artist in the sense of being able to draw freehand. If it's just silhouettes, I can find images and do vector tracings.

Do you have a list of diagrams that you need? How would you communicate the concept of each diagram? Quick pencil sketch? The text of the example/caption, perhaps with a note?

Do you want to send my the notes for a few examples and I'll see whether I can handle them?

Finally, what's your timeline like? How quickly can you respond to questions, approve work, etc.?

Do you have any previous publications?

Warfare Rules30 Aug 2017 1:25 a.m. PST

Sure, happy for you to try a couple of Diagrams as a test.

My Rules are about 90 pages, and at present it just says (Diagram) where I intend to put them, and there are quite a lot, maybe 30 to 40.

I would just draw them with pencil and paper, snap shot them, and send them to you to produce.

Have you seen rules like DBM, L'Art de la Guerre or Fields of Glory?…..they are element based rules that contain similar diagrams.

I don't have any previous publications, which is why I am looking for help from someone who has, timeline is flexible, just looking to find the right person for the job.

My email is jgray1066@gmail.com if you wish to give it a try, contact me there.

Cool, what an coincidence!I'm working on a ruleset of 3000BC-1860AD too! about 80-90 pages! and also looking for pics!

want to exchage some experiences? E-mail: frank@miniwarfare.com

is this what you are looking for? I paint every pixel myself. I used to try to photo the real miniatures to be the diagrams, just like what War&Conquest did, but soon i gave up, that is a large painting job, and photoshop them is a disaster.

Warfare Rules30 Aug 2017 2:40 a.m. PST

Hi Frank, YES!!……this is the style of Diagrams I am looking for.

My Rules differ, in that each base contains several figures rather than just one…….but this is the style I am looking for.

If you or emckinney can produce similar diagrams for my rules, I would be happy to reimburse you for your services.

The body motion is learned from juniorgeneral.org
It has many similar soldier pics, you may try contact the authors for permission.Pixels are little bit cartoon, i don't know whether they suit the general tone of your book or not.

Basically, i did almost everything in my book. Pics, type setting…diagrams are not hard, but if you want to make them reach FOG level, that's hard. You need some commercial texture to do that.

I would be quite happy with this level of detail in my Diagrams, being totally inept at such things, is there anyone out there who can help me in making this style of Diagrams for my rules?

emckinney30 Aug 2017 8:43 a.m. PST

If Frank wants to tackle this, I'll happily defer to him. His experience will matter a lot for this.

I can _probably_ do more-or-less adequate figures based on the Junior General art. I'd likely trace it in vector so that everything looks smooth. Well, smooth-ish, given the resolution of the masters and my general inability to add higher-resolution detail that looks right.
