What manufacturers do you recommend for "typical" SYW-
era villages / houses / churches etc? I really like 4Ground Miniatures and also Sarissa. At this point I like to focus on painting miniatures rather than terrain, however, and so the former have great advantages even if they are a little pricey. I've noticed that most ranges tend to favor periods loosely defined as ECW and Napoleonic, with Northern Europe and the Peninsula well represented. What about something typically Silesian, Bohemian, or Saxon? Would I be forgiven for having Frederick fight over some Low Country village?

If you can find them, the Conflix range of pre-painted buildings are quite good. I have a few of them that fit in well for the SYW.

They have a bit of a fantasy slant but are convincing enough when you plonk them on the table.

The half timbered 'Tudor' (black & white) style buildings were quite common throughout (what we now call)Germany, even after WW2 but are being replaced by modern generic buildings so you will probably have to search for 'Open Air Museum' for the regions you are interested in to get more details.

As for buildings on a battle field, most engagements that I can think of, outside sieges, were in farm land, so buildings could have been limited to a farmstead like La Haye Saint – a farm house, animal barn, grain barn and a wall joining them into a block – something that goes back at least to the Romans.

There were also very small farming villages which tended to operate as a sort of co-operative, but you then tend to have the village taking up all the table and no room for the troops ;-)

Vatican Enterprises in Michigan USA sells the excellent 25mm buildings originally offered by Hudson & Allen. Cast in lightweight foam with smooth surfaces, well detailed. A good assortment of thatched houses, with some farm buildings that work well for SYW period. Also medieval castles and wood hoardings.

If you are gaming the Prussian battles in Silesia and Bohemia, you are not going to find any half timbered buildings in that region of the old Prussia.the building style should be stucco over brick with tile or thatched roofs.im not sure whether anyone makes such a building. I had to go the scratch built route using the services of Herb Gundt ( unfortunately Herb is retired from the model making business).

This would seem to be a good opportunity for Acheson or Grand Manner or some other company to fill.
