Any idea which figures could be used as montagnards?

May be with conversion work.

I know the West Wind ones, but want more uniformed ones.

Oh, I mean in 28mm.

Based on some images I have seen, you could get away with any Allied figure in uniform with a bush hat that is carrying an M16.

Parkfield Miniatures have some Kit Carson scouts that might do the job.

For some expert opinions, I would recommend visiting this site: link

There are two types of Montagnards. Or I should say for wargame figures there are what could be called two types. I assume you mean those serving as strikers with U.S.Special Forces A-Teams.

Shelldrake's response would fit perfectly. So would figures with earlier weapons, depending on when in the war you wanted the figures to represent. Earlier you can use figures with U.S. WWII weapons. Carbines (both the M-1 and the M-2) were common as were BARs and 30 caliber machine guns.

You can also mix in the occasional steel U.S. helmet or a baseball cap.

There are lots of figures to choose from in 20mm; probably not so many in 28mm.

There are also those Montagnards who were not in military service but were wearing their traditional clothing (such as it was) and carrying crossbows. Not what you want, probably.

Battle Honors "Marine/Raiders in Bonnies" would work for the early war.
