Throwing away miniatures!?!?! You are probably going to hell for that!

Seriously, I'm contemplating how to downsize/rightsize my hobby stuff, too. It's hard to even think about. When I pick up some figs and think about selling them, I start to stroke them and say things like, "My Precioussss"

I like your rule of 2 and have been moving towards it myself.

RE: downsizing – Make a good deal and you would be surprise what people will want. I've done eBay as well as the TMP marketplace. As a matter of fact, two major sales were made here as a result of other people's posts looking for figures.

My purge has all been in sales.

I would have no problem in binning very old figures! I have been considering doing it myself!

Make up a box and offer it here for $10.00 USD

Some of us old guys love very old figures.

I'm trying to downsize also, just the age showing I guess. I've had some success on the Marketplace & still have much more to move out but it is hard to just toss them or sell for next to nothing but it may come to that.

Downsizing. Probably many of us should. But pitching them is wasteful. Usually someone will make you an offer on TMP. Or go to a convention flea market. When you get near the end, put a "Free to Good Home" sign on your table and leave.

So far, there are zero complaints of leftover stuff on the free table at the end of the flea market.

I agree fully on the no pitch rule (is really a rule now).

If someone were to post figure count, size, period and a price of no more than $25.00 USD (with shipping included), I bet it would move.

Perhaps add another marketplace named "Grab Bag" with those rules and allow anyone to sell there.

thanks for replies!

I think that it's somehow significant that the downsizing part of the post is getting the most attention. I think it's because most wargamers can agree that having too much stuff is problematic. actually, it's too much unpainted stuff is problematic.

let me stress though, that after the purge / downsize I have enjoyed things more; and since I started to narrow my focus the lead mountain has barely grown, but painted progress has increased.

However you do it, either slowly or kinda quickly over about 2 months like I did because I had a deadline, I would encourage you to do it.

Throwing miniatures away is indeed wasteful, of course so was buying them in the first place and storing them untouched for X amount of time. I honestly DONT remember what I tossed, it's been a few years and obliviously didn't scar me, I do remember trying to find homes for everything and no one wanted that stuff. it got a point of do or die; do I pack these for the move or trash them? I kept stuff that was painted and ditched the rest. I still haven't touched some of it. For example I kept a MERCS soviet squad because it was painted, and painted pretty well for me actually, and now nearly 3 years later they've never left the foam….

What I do remember is some of what I gave away or sold for super cheap. I sold GW LOTR dwarfs and goblins to a young man not old enough to drive; 30 painted goblins, 1 troll, and a whole bunch of unpainted still on the sprue dwarfs and goblins plus and a shoebox full of metal dwarfs for…$20. He wasn't stranger, we'd played a few LOTR games together and he was just starting out.

anyway, let's all enjoy ourselves more! : )

I commend you on the LOTR deal. You took a loss, but helped a new comer.
