I just got ultra-bugged . . . I have a set of rules I'm working on to go along with my range of 2mm kriegspiel/soldier line (which is 3d printed through Shapeways). These are simple, fun rules that should only take up a dozen or so pages. I'm trying to keep them fun and simple, but with some interesting nuances and mechanisms for keeping track of units. I'd be selling them in PDF format, but I'd like to make them available as an eBook and a print-on-demand book as well. The print-on-demand books I could then order for myself and sell at conventions. Does anyone have experience with using self-publishing for books involving pictures and diagrams? I've self-published before, but the books were all text. If you have, did you use Microsoft Word to do the page layout, or was something more complicated necessary? I'm not sure if I'd bother doing these in color for the print book, because these are supposed to be fun, fast and cheap. About the complexity of DBA, with some twists. Thanks! |

Yes I do. I use both CreateSpace and Wargames Vault. I use a WP called PagePlus but anything you are comfortable with will work. Your work will need to be turned into a pdf before it can be printed. I decided to go greyscale because it is cheaper and the colour is only for the pictures and its the text that is important in rules, not pretty pictures (eye candy). |

Word should be fine but you may need (want ?) to use some of the more 'advanced' features such as Frames and image wrapping options. Tony of TTT |

You may want to speak with Two Hour Wargames. He has some experience in selling rules as a download. I do not understand how an eBook works, but THW may have some useful knowledge. |

Look at DriveThru. People can order your books with whatever markup you set, and you can order what you need at cost to take to shows. I have become a big fan of DriveThru and have been using them for years. |

Print versions that you want to sell at conventions maybe look into what a local printing or copy shop can do for you. Especially if you are only looking at a dozen pages of rules, comb bound with cardstock covers. It will probably be cheaper than POD. |
