Now that Dunkirk is out, what is the next WW2 to keep an eye open for? Thanks (Note: I don't pay attention to Hollywood rumors, don't have cable TV so am not subjugated to movie trailers and commercials. I learned of Dunkirk from gaming websites.) |

Dunkirk was very good, I want to see Dieppe. A sole movie on D-Day after having just read Cross Channel Attack would be cool but think after SPR it would not fly. |

I think pegasus bridge is on its way. How about an up to date LRDG film. |

A remake of the Battle of the River Plate '50s movie? Same plot line, but with CGI ships? |

I don't think the OP is asking what you would like to see. He's asking if anything is in the pipeline. |

Wasn't Peter Jackson re-making "The Dam Busters"? Did I miss that? |

Third filmatization of The Unknown Soldier (Finnish: Tuntematon sotilas). I'm gonna post here a hype email I sent to one of my colleagues recently… Here is the teaser and trailer for the new 3rd filmatization for the great Finnish book on Continuation War, The Unknown Soldier. YouTube link YouTube link
The book is probably the most read and sold book in Finland. Ever. The book was written in 1954 and tells the story of a machine gun company and is heavily based on author's own experiences.
The original film was made in 1955 and is the movie with highest ever attendance in Finland. A good one even if slightly dated in John Wayne kind of way… YouTube link YouTube link (full movie, but no subs. The initail scene features probably the most effective and emotional use of Sibelius' Finlandia ever) The 2nd filmatization from 1985 is one I like (slightly) more and is done with more realistic, and broodier, atmosphere. The upcoming 3rd film doesn't look bad either but seems to feature some additional material not found in the book (apparently it is based on the original draft of Unknown Soldier, Sotaromaani aka. War Novel, of the book which was rejected and was finally published in 2000). One of the biggest thing about this story is the different colorful dialects the soldiers from various parts of Finland speak. Unfortunately all this is lost in translation both in the book and the movies. But that just takes the cherry from the top of the delicious cake… So any version is highly recommended!

Also, isn't the Band of Brothers/Pacific team doing an air war/bomber command series? |

I saw a trailer for "Darkest Hour" this weekend about Churchill taking the PM job and dealing with Dunkirk. Looks pretty interesting. |

Thanks Beowulf, glad to hear it's still on. Must be getting close, it was a while ago I first heard of it. |

"The Mighty Eighth" is evidently an HBO production like "Band of Brothers" or "Pacific." link link Jim |

The Churchill "Darkest Hour" was one of the trailers when I saw "Dunkirk". To be quite truthful, it looks like a better move before the main event and looked even better after. Still not sure what all the raves about "Dunkirk" were about. |

I would like to see a movie on Saipan and one on the battle in Normandy's hedgerows in July 1944 before Operation Cobra. I would also love a miniseries from the Japanese side. |
