"2mm Battle Field" Topic

Yet another mat making its debut. This one also shows 27 French battalions deployed/ deploying for battle, and as usual all these units are at 1:1 figure/soldier ration. Each battalion is made up of 3 x 40mm bases with 150 figures per base. This terrain looks pretty tight, but is not ahistorical, if you think about Leipzig and fighting around all those little villages, I'd imagine it didn't look too dissimilar.

This mat was many by spray painting muslin light green, then painting thinned down latex paint over top. The look is ok, although washing has to be accomplished by spraying it down. No washing machine for this guy. Also, latex creates difficult to remove creases. On my new-new mat I'm using dyes so that the material remains supple and machine-washable, as well as iron-able. So far it seems to be working out…

Those with eagle-eyes might notice that the figures on the table are a mix of my own 2mm figures as well as some DIY infantry that go with my range. I'll be doing a post on how to make 2mm infantry from styrene strips shortly. I decided that the infantry for my model range was a bit pricier than is reasonable. The entire idea behind Forward March Miniatures was to make it possible to play huge battles for almost no money. It started out that way, but the design compromises I had to make to get the models ready for 3d printing drove the price up. So, I've come up with an extremely fast, cheap and good method for making as many 2mm infantry strips as you want. They're almost identical to my printed 2mm figures but about 5% the cost. The idea here is that you make your own scratch-built infantry, then buy my 2mm officers, cavalry and artillery to round out the force (these are very difficult to make from scratch, so the money is well spent, I think). The infantry will still be available at my Shapeways shop, but I'll also be showing people who to use this other method. When I get that post ready I'll put it up here.
