Hi, I'd like to start playing NUTS. Is it difficult? Thanks |

Not difficult but not for everyone. If you like total control of your figures then may not be for you. You control what your personal figure will do and the rest react to the situations they find themselves in. Not a IGOUGO game. Take a look at Chain Reaction. It's for free and uses the Reaction System. Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty simple. link |

I've tried, but can't seem to get my head around the rules. What's missing is a clear overview that would put the other bits in context. |

What's in the compendium Ed? |

I've tried, but can't seem to get my head around the rules. What's missing is a clear overview that would put the other bits in context. Sorting out the in-sight test is 90% of it and there is a handy video here: youtu.be/03ILRwfIQog |

@TonicNH, the NUTS! Compendium is a tool box of optional rules for NUTS! FV from which you can draw to enhance and customize your NUTS! games and campaigns. The rules in this book follow the same organizational style as the NUTS! Final Version rulebook and includes: • Basic Unit lists for Early-Mid War for all combatants, including infantry units and sample set of vehicles • Updated Character and figure rules, including new NUTS Attributes and morale levels like Plucky and Fanatic, and women in combat • Privation, Fatigue and Out of Supply rules for when your games get tough • Cavalry combat • Gunboat combat and Amphibious landings • Night fighting • Rules for Airborne assaults, Ski troops, K-9 teams and Engineers • Enhanced artillery and air strike rules • Additional Chocolate & Cigarettes lite RPG rules and attributes such as Wheeling & Dealing and Shell Shock • Optional vehicle rules, including multi-turreted tanks, top armor attacks, bogging and getting tracked • New terrain, weather and environment rules including Desert, Jungle, Alpine and Urban • Additional mission and campaign rules such as pre-mission intelligence and the unique "Break in the Action" system which lets you game extended assignments at the Front rather than single missions The idea is that with the core NUTS! FV book and the NUTS! Compendium you can game pretty much any aspect of WW2, while of course you still have the more detailed campaign books available as well. |

BattleCaptain. Sounds good. The In Sight is usually the "What?" thing, but I'll do one and post from start to finish. Give me a few days. Here are some examples. YouTube link YouTube link YouTube link YouTube link Tonic SB is a co-author so he's got it down pat in his reply. |

It can take a little getting your head around, but oh, is it ever worth it… NUTS! ruined IGOUGO games for me for ever. It's my go-to for WW2 to Ultramodern, whether solo, coop or H2H. I can't recommend it highly enough. |

Add me too. In every game friends bring I just keep shaking head over situations in which enemy pop out of the blue and shoot at you during "his turn". |

…or the reaction when their figures don't do what they want them to do based on a reaction roll. "OK, your squad takes fire from an MG34 as they advance on the enemy held building. Rolling as a Squad, looks like the Germans win the In Sight and open fire…hit two figures, Out of the Fight. This forces a Crisis Test on your figures, and they are Outgunned. Go ahead and roll against REP 4. OK, that's a Pass 1d6 result, your figures all Duck Back into cover away from the machine gun fire." "But -- I want the rest of my figures to charge the machinegun and kill it!!" "Sorry, your figures, based on the Reaction roll, don't like that plan and ducked back into cover."

In every game friends bring I just keep shaking head over situations in which enemy pop out of the blue and shoot at you during "his turn". That's how THW was started. I hated the "I come around the corner and you see me, but it's my turn, so I walk up to short range and shoot you" That's like, "I'm sitting in my house, you break in through the front door and take my TV while I watch as it's your turn". |
