My newest army, my Balkan Wars Greeks, got another outing this week. After fighting lots of late nineteenth-century battles (Franco-Prussian War, Crimean War, etc) the lethality of modern bolt-action magazine-fed rifles and belt-fed machineguns came as a real shock to us players. Talk about a prelude to WWI! We must have felt a bit like the generals of the day did. Very educational and insight-provoking. Also a bloody good tight and exciting game, with unusual terrain dominated by a lake and marshes in the middle of the table, and a last-turn nail-biter. A number of years ago, we had a special issue of Time Portal Passages devoted to the Balkan Wars. Back near 2000. |

Hello, I'm after a good single-volume history of the First Balkan War. Can you recommend one? Thanks, Legion |
