I like the look of larger battalions so would want them to be at least 24figs per battalion…30plus is fine as well, so would require rules that allow large units on the tabletop Id also prefer dedicated nap rules rather than a (jack of all trades master of none) set. The last time I played naps is about 25yrs ago using newbury fast play rules, though the game were enjoyable im hoping nap rule sets have moved on a bit since then? Thx for any suggestions. |

Well, they are not dedicated Napoleonic rules but I have 24 fig battalions and I use the Black Powder rules |

General de Brigade is very good. And well supported with scenario books and an online forum. LaSalle is another that uses big units and gives a very good looking and fun game. |

We have had good games with Over the Hills using Battalions of 32 and 48 figs. Tally Ho! |

Lots of possibilities. How big a force do you want to run? And do you like casting or stand removal, or rosters? As an example, a V&B player might put 24 15mm castings on a single 3" square stand, but I doubt that's what you have in mind. The more you think through what you want, the less trouble you'll have getting it. And the better you articulate it, the easier you are to help. |

General de Brigade is hideously bloated. Dave Brown does a better job with General d'Armee, in which he actually realizes that troops might not act as a player wants: i.e. they might not move. |

I'm trying to get back into it too, it's probably 40 years since I last played and, yes, it was Quarrie's little red book. I have been looking around and General de Brigade seems popular. I have ordered General d'Armee to see what it's like. |

Lots to ponder… I will check out all the suggestions etc..so thx for those. I do like removing figures when casualties occur, for newbury fast play we used to base the battalions of about 24figs on bases of 4, 3, 2 and a couple of singles, I think id like to play using a similar system for casualties. I dont want a "flames of war" for napoleonics then again I dont want to need a super computer to work how the the hit roll required……. A set of rules where a game can be play over a few sessions is fine as I dont like to sacrifice detail and accuracy just so a game is over in a couple of hours. Size of game…. as many figures as we can paint :-) Will want battalions as separate units on the table top. |

Id also like a set of rules that helps to create a visual feast with buildings, hedgerows, walls and roads etc. I enjoy the painting and modelling maybe more than the gaming itself. |

Black Powder us fine, although a bit generic. I play a lot of Over the Hills game using battalions which are typicaly 36 figures, representing a 600 strong unit,; definitely my preferred rule set for Napoleonics these days. |

Would check out the computer moderated set of rules, Carnage & Glory II. Figures are based on ground scale, so you can have your battalions as any size you want. The standard size for 15/18mm is 1"=50 paces, but you can modify to your liking. They have a good Yahoo Group (as long as those last) and the designer is active on line and at HMGS shows in the US. carnageandgloryii.com |
