Hi all,

I'm getting ready to build my mech platoons and have a couple of questions about them. One is game related and the other is just general curiosity.

Curious question: Were the mech squads really that small? I seem to remember that the US has generally fielded 9 man squads for the last few decades. I even remember it being up to 11. However TY has the typical US mech squad as have a four man team SAW team, a two man Dragon teams, and what I assume is a two man M113 team. That seems rather small to me. I know this is just a game and all, but that seems a little off. Unless they're assuming that all US Army forces in Europe is a bit under strength… which probably isn't a bad assumption. That's around 70-80% of what I assume are TO&E manning levels.

To mount or not to mount: That is the M47 on the M113. On the one hand I like making the tracks into tank killers. But on the other hand it strips the dismounts of their only "effective" tank killer. What do you do? I have enough tracks to mount all three of my platoons so I don't have enough tracks to do both options for each platoon. So what do you do?

Thanks!!

When I was mech inf – 84-86 we had 2x 4 man fire teams (one with the our M-60, the other with the M47) the Squad Leader, a track driver & a TC

– our SL would some times strip the M-60 or Dragon into 2 man teams but not always

– doctrine was that the Dragon would be in the Dragon cradle mount on the TC's hatch when the squad was mounted

- problematic to use if the roof troop hatch was open due to the backblast

& for the dragon to be taken off & carried by the team when dismounted

The dragon was heavy, bulky, unpopular & we had no faith in its capabilities – not our favorite

I figure that the infantry is not 100% 1:1

But basically, 7-9 Dismounts divided into a Main Body and Dragon team. Is it really enough to need a second infantry stand?

Not so much a second infantry team, but raising the Dragon team from being a two man stand to maybe 3 or 4.
