I got to thinking about what we at Maneouver Group don't model or consider not useful to model in a wargame. One that occurs to me is reconisance by fire. The art of firing on likely hiding place in the hope of provoking return fire thus betraying an otherwise hidden position. The answer is it could be modelled in part but it really is a random event that even if real, does not really improve the basic simulation. Secondly as designed the game uses blinds that typicaly are only a numerous as the bases so it's 50% chance it's real anyway. On maps it is possible to do a better job but troops that poorly trained are not that much fun anyway. Hence no model as there is no perceived gain to the simulation. What do you not model and why? |

NBC. Just to horrible to think about, especially in a tactical game (not simulation). We like our models on the table so don't play with realistic spotting rules. reality is the "Empty Battlefield" |

"troops that poorly trained are not that much fun anyway" Are you thinking that only low-quality will return fire? 3rd Army experience indicated that pretty much everyone would start returning fire. |

Saber 6 ner really thought about NCB as it never seemed to work well against military, but you are correct we don't model it and would not bother. I supposw we do not model Tactical Nukes eithert. Interestingly on the S-Tank Thread one of the vidieos clains to show survival of an S tank at 500m from a 1 Megaton Blast. So technical could just about fit that on a big table, but we wont bother with the rules. emckinney, interesting but for the other reasons I would still add it but it is interesting that troops are not that well trained. |

Reconnaisance by fire works two ways, do you really want to advertise your presence? |

Yes, to employ NBC in any game would not be very entertaining/much fun or last very long … I believe the same could be said about it in the real world. |

Ammunition expenditure. Anything that requires excessive bookkeeping. |

"Reconnaisance by fire works two ways, do you really want to advertise your presence?" If you're advancing and are going to be spotted anyhow, why not? |

Of course on the Advance you'd still like to stay under cover as much as can. But that is always not an option. But I don't see any problem with Recon by Fire. But that may add another paradigm about hidden units/markers ? With Drones, ReconSats, etc. in modern times might be something to consider with Hidden Unit rules, etc. But in both situations, those rules may add a lot more problems that it solves ? |

I use NBC. I spent so many hours of my time in the army in MOPP-4 so why not game it that way. |

Force on Force has a card that has your troops go to MOPP. I enjoy it. |
