I'm looking for some miniatures that would be passable as Dothraki calvary from Game of Thrones. I'm looking to collect about 20 of them for a game that I'll be running at a convention later this year. Any suggestions?

Or just get them from the new kickstarter in a few weeks.:-)

I used Fireforge Mongols – with parts swapped from a few other sets. That's the great thing about plastic – you can swap parts.

Check Mr. Martin's website – the British Museum has an exhibit re Skythians comparing them to Dothraki.

What new kickstarter in a few weeks?

By the way the Mongol/Dothraki have already won their first campaign putting Daenerys on the Iron Throne (got thrown off latter but that's another campaign…)

Iron Throne is up for grabs at DragonCon over Labor Day weekend.

Do you have any photos of your Firforge Mongols, Thomas Thomas? I'd love to see what you did with them

I'm hoping to find bare chested or minimally clothed calvary without bows. That's been a challenge so far.

Try RAFM Skythians.
Some are bare chested. However, they are "true 25mm".

These are Perry Miniature Metal Saracens.

Now these are infantry, but Dothraki have been forced to fight on foot throughout the books (and all the time in the show).

I used lucky toys bareheaded Huns and Italeri bare torsoed/bareheads Celt cavalry for my 20mm collection

Wargames Foundry ancient germans have some that would pass.

As to pictures I've got to master the arcane Miniature page picture posting software…still working on it.

Why do you want figures without bows? The Dothraki always used bows and are famous for it. Likewise on foot – it was considered a great dishonor for a Dothraki to be on foot – they would never fight on foot hence their traditional trouble with sieges.

I don't recall seeing any of the Dothraki with bows ( but I could be wrong). They always seem to have those scicle type hand weapons so I was hoping to find something similar or at least spears.

Thomas,

I just realized that you're the author of A Game of Fire and Ice. I haven't had the opportunity to play your ruleset but it looks very intriguing. How many figures does it take to create a faction in your rules? I'm trying to run a game at an upcoming convention in October so I have time to paint. Ideally I'd like to accommodate 4-6 players with unique factions. I'm currently looking at fielding Lannisters, Starks, Tyrrell, Targaryen, Martell, and Greyjoy.

Fiveocommando:

Yes I'm the author of A Game of Fire and Ice. Re: figures a faction starts with 24 points (generally a figure = a point) so you would need roughly 24 figures for a base faction. But each faction gets an ally of roughly 9-12 more figures.

Figures are multi-mounted: 4 figures for Heavy Foot, 3 for Medium Foot, 3 for Knights and Medium Mounted, 2 for Light Foot or Light mounted (on 60mm bases for 25mm+ and 40mm for smaller scales). Army lists are provided for similar types of factions except Tyrrell's (I should add some House Flower list…)

Re: Bows. I think you are speaking of the HBO Dothraki. In the books Bows figure prominantly and they never fight on foot. HBO doesn't have the budge to hire horse archers (I guess) but you should give them Bows (see article comparing the culture to Skytians). I've been challenged to find such sickle swords (they seem to have something similar in the books).

Hope you enjoy the game – feedback welcome. I'm working on a 2nd edition base on player feedback (like all my games all editions and updates are free).
