While most wargames can be adapted to miniatures – some are better that others.

Ones I have used over time – what have you used or would add to this list

A. Sam Grant and Bobby Lee
B. Shenandoah
C. Liberty
D. House Divided
E. Kingmaker (first one I ever tried)
F. Close Assault
G. Fire Power

I have also used Kingmaker. I works remarkably well. I wanted to use Twilight Imperium- first edition,to create a campaign but my friends said that game took look enough and did not need any help slowing down. :)

We used SPI's "Solomons Campaign" for a fictitious modern naval campaign (c. 1970). This was primarily useful for the map and strategic movement-- tactical rules were "Go In and Sink" with some additions for air and paratroops.

"Empires in Arms" (Napoleonic) works very well.

Various versions of Risk!, especially LOTR Risk and Risk: 2210, which are both more than Risk in different costumes.

Chess, Shogi, Hefntafl, Chaturanga, etc. … anyone remember Archon?
