Today the Godsprog came over- He'd been given a couple of airfix kits for his birthday, a harrier and a mustang, so we spent the afternoon putting the Harrier together. Well I did, at 6 he doesn't quite have the attention span to stick with it when there is lego to be played with! But he did help and took an interest in the technical details of the model.

Anyway, while we were waiting for glue to dry I decided a game would be in order- I had already prepared this as I was expecting the rather slow process of kit building to lose its allure after a while!

And so he was introduced to the idea of Sci-fi gaming!

The scenario was simple- A small colony of settlers on a planet miles from anywhere were under attack by a mob of Ork and Gretchin Pirates, intent on stealing their pocket money! Luckily the mighty Space Rangers were on hand to protect them!

The rules I devised were simple-
All shooting and melee would be a roll off between the attacker and its opponent/target.
Rangers rolled a D12 (the heavy weapon guy rolled twice for shooting, their Sergeant rolled 3 in melee!)
Orks rolled d10 (the plasma cannon guy could add d6 to that in shooting)
Grots/cops rolled a d6
the other Civies rolled a d4, but couldn only defend them selves if attacked.
Movement was 6" per figure, and all units consisted of 5 figures.

10 Space Rangers with bolters inc. a Sarge with pistol and sword and a guy with an autocannon.
14 Ork Pirates with pistols and axes, 1 with a plasma cannon.
15 Grots with autoguns.

simple eh?

In the end My dice did not like me at all and the Orks lost almost every roll off! They managed to mug two civies in the process, but were no match for the Space Rangers! However the Grots were apparently made of sterner stuff and managed to down 8 Space Rangers! The last two, including the sergeant however easily cut their way through the horde, saving the Colony!

Excellent and simple scenario, and I think the Godsprog will be back for more. Well, he'll be back to build that Mustang at any rate…

It looks like it was a colorful and entertaining game. That and lots of dice rolling were probably perfect.
