I have some bunches of figures that are at loose ends in my collection. Orphans, or abandoned.
I want to find a use for them.
Recently I've been looking at doing Spanish in the AWI.

Would the following have any use?
Hussars in mirleton, with or without pelisse?
Old Glory Fitzjames horse. If they're wearing a cuirass, the coat would cover it.

The Uniformology books are on my wish list, so I can't consult them now.

My order of siege of Pensacola indicates the Spanish had 85 Dragones de America, 43 Dragones de Luisiana and 11 Luisiana carabiners present. No idea the uniforms so I don't know whether your figures would work.

Does anyone have a game scenario for Pensacola? As a matter of interest.

John,

Form The Army of Spain in the American Revolution and the New World, Vol 1:

Distinguished Company of Carabiniers, Militia of New Orleans wore a long-tailed red coat white pants, knee-high cavalry boots, and a tricorne. I think your OG Fitzjames Horse would work well for them.

Dragoons of America wore similar inform but with yellow coat and blue pants.

Spanish Frontier Dragoon (probably helped garrison northern Mexico and California) wore an all blue uniform with short jacket over which they wore a knee length sleeveless coat. The hat was "Zorro" style with a flat-brim and low crown. The boots were more Western in style and were covered by calf length hide "chaps."

Dragoon of the Sagunto Regiment had a similar uniform to the Carabiniers with a yellow coat and green pants and vest. The headgear was a tall shako with a tall brass front plate outlined with a white caterpillar style fur crest.

No hussars were illustrated.

I don't have the second volume so don't know what uniforms are in it. There are only plates in Volume 1 with no description other than the name of the unit or type of soldier represented.

Hope that helps,

Jim

Not during the AWI period, but in the era l805 ish or so a regiment of hussars, the Texas Hussars were authorized. A provincial cavalry unit intended to to replace the "Frontier Dragoon" or Cuera horse ColCampbell identified. You'd have to stretch a bit.

I wrote a bit about these guys on my old blog years ago:

Thanks. Oddly, Fitzjames Horse had red coats too. grin
So, they will be His Most Catholic Majesty's Generic Dragoons.

Or yellow…
