So, since, so far, no German Legation identified in the lists, can anyone suggest the best option in the range for the German Legation?

Thanks!

My Legations arrived. The UPS guys was not happy as he dragged the huge Box(er) across the lawn! I have unbox(er)ed three of them so far and can only state how pleased I am. Packing was excellent, I think I do have a tiny bit of damage to one casting, but heck they were being bombarded, right?

The engineering of the models is excellent and the detail is astounding. I look forward of the challenge of painting these and doing justice to the wonderful work that Blue Moon provides on such a massive scale. Everything I have purchased from them has left me feeling that I have gotten something of the highest standards of the industry and at reasonable prices. Even with that said the sheer scope of this project is absolutely stunning!

Great work from the folks at Blue Moon! I love you, even if I am putting your kids though college!

I have no idea what the German Legation looks like but the folks at Blue Moon makes walls and buildings for a "generic" legation which should work.

Rdfraf: Perhaps that is the challenge. I have been searching for the last couple weeks for a good picture of the German legation and only found obscured views so far. Actually, I think the mission building is the closest so far of what exists in the exciting new range.

Tsofian: I, too, am a huge fan of the Old Glory/Blue Moon 'condominium'. So many periods opened up and others opened much wider as a result of what they've released – and pretty much in less than a decade (15/18 mm anyway).

My order, placed July 4, may be a while since I asked for it to ship complete and included one or more of all of the figure packs. Okay. House remodeling means not any time for the next month likely and then a nice out of state vacation. (Have to alert Blue Moon not to ship during that window!!!! Porch thieves. Say, when is open season on porch thieves? _ okay, I jest, but I'm sure you understand_)

It will take ages to get everything ready for a game, once I place and receive my second Boxer Blue Moon order (and maybe a third if they do a train and some relief forces – though the latter, relief forces, can be gotten from Old Gory 15s Boxer ranges). But should be worth the wait.

From what can be found of pictures of the German Legation, it appears that most of the fighting by them was done behind a wall that they constructed from a gate leading into the Legation across the street and to the corner of the Hotel located across from the gate. The wall of the legation appears to be a series of houses that make up the wall as the roof lines in the picture all seem to match the roof line of the gate.
The constructed wall that the Germans used appears to be looped holed rather than having a walkway behind and the troops firing down.

One thing about the Legations is that I have found one gate that is identified as belonging to three different legations. It is the same photo, just identified three different ways.

Well, a kind soul by the moniker of Major Mike posted a link to a nice image of the German legation in a discussion I started on the Wargaming in Germay board here on TMP and I just tried it and the image doesn't come up but the general page does – and a careful scrolling of the page, including seeing more images, failed to find it there. Hmm, some shenanigans, perhaps?

Just went searching for it, briefly, through other avenues and no luck. Suffice to say it somewhat resembled the Austrian Legation with multiple peaks to its roof line but with a much 'busier' balcony that appeared to be wood with many posts and a 'fence' line between the posts. Similar on the lower floor though not so busy. Though not like the Austrian building posted on the Blue Moon site – perhaps the one I saw was from an early era, or mislabelled.

Well, I'm going to go post again in that referenced thread to thank Major Mike and ask if he can post it again. Even my bookmark to it doesn't go to the image.

And, Miniatureships, seems I was on the right track in speculating some difficulty in finding images. I don't need precise historical accuracy, just a pleasing representation. Push comes to shove and I'll probably use the Mission Building as a stand in. We'll see what I come up with. I'll report back at some point.

I saw the other building post and to me was more in line with the Japanese legation building. The building used for the Russian legation has also been suggested as the German legation.

If you know what the Germans called the Boxer Rebellion and how it was spelled, you might find what your looking for.

Here is something to consider – What is a legation building? Is it where official business was conducted or just a building located with in the legation walls?

I have several pictures that deal with the American Legation, making it easy to make models for the legation itself. But, I have also found newspaper articles with drawings that show the American Legation building different than what one sees in the photographs.

The same is true for the British Legation. You can find photos of buildings within the Legation, as the two buildings with lift off roofs in the Blue Moon set – one being a private residence and the other a missionary school – but you will find photos of buildings like BRB 110 and BRB 111 credited as being British Legation buildings.

Basically, then you have official buildings, whatever they are and private homes of the Legation officials, all of which are listed as Legation buildings.

Simply put, using the generic legation walls or even the Chinese walls, and the buildings that are now available you can build the other legations.

Another problem that I noticed when looking at maps of the legation area, none of which totally agree on size and shape of the legations, is that you will find at two locations for the French – one I am assuming is where the French Troops where station.

Photo back up at the Wargaming in Germany thread. Doesn't quite match to any of the existing buildings I can see now – but the photo does not identify the time period so that may not matter. But I like that fancy balcony – even though hard to replicate and make playable.

However realistic, or not, Blue Moon's offerings are, in ten years there will be gamers arguing – vociferously – that someone else's image of the legation buildings is just wrong, wrong, wrong. And there historical research will be that they saw a game using the Blue Moon buildings! And the image presented may be an actual photograph. Can you not see it?

I just want to get going and am still really excited to see the civilian figures.

Any time frame on when to expect the rest of the figures?

Wackmole9, is your image any different from the one the mentioned thread?
