Hey all, really enjoy wings of glory /war, I think x wing would be a fun game in a similar format. Before I start my own work thought I'd check to see if anyone else has already bothered?

To head off unrelated discussion, yes you coukd argue its similar, no I don't agree. Wings of glory is enjoyable, x wing is not. I'm not looking for differing opinions, good job of you enjoy x wing is, that's not what I'm interested in.

I think there is an X Wing variant for Won on Boardgamegeek

I'm confused. X-wing already IS the Wings of War/Glory system/mechanic. It just uses the dial instead of cards.

Are you suggesting making up cards for movement instead?

David Manley22 Jul 2017 8:06 a.m. PST

No, X Wing isn't. They look similar but its a different movement and combat system.

I know what you mean, I prefer the WoW/G rules to the Xwing ones… x wing, whilst fun seems intended for people who love to micromanage things, and is awfully cluttered with crap all over the shop.

You could easily condense a Ships stats in xwing to just the basics required to know how much damage it could take, how much it could try and dish out, and what deck of manouver cards it uses.

X-wing is enjoyable, and a lot more like Wings, if you don't play with cards and named characters (or at least strictly limit how many of those you have). Without all those upgrade/combos, the game is faster, more fun, and becomes a simple dogfighting game, instead of a contest to see who can build the best list.

I hear you, and am with you on this one Ivan!

I play without silly lists and almost all of the upgrades!

Exactly mike target!

I've heard that Ivan and may go that route but I enjoy wings so much I seriousness mind giving it a shot anyway.

Thanks Mr. Manley!

Years ago (before X-wing came out), I ran an X-Wings of War game at Little Wars using old Micro Machine fighters. I just used Wings decks and picked maneuver decks based on how I wanted the ships to fly. It was a blast. It need not be much more complicated than that. I did come up,with Torp and Missile rules and Ion rules (I think they were temp Crits) but it was so long ago I no longer have my notes, unfortunately.
