I have started painting up armies for some 28mm MAW actions. Just curious as to what you put on the bases for ground cover? What colors? Materials? Any input would be much appreciated.

I use sand and pva that I paint in Ceramcoat Trail Tan and then dry brush. I also add larger stones, and tufts that are olive to brown in color.

Again, as above. I add some desert type ground cover such as yellow lichen or Winter Tufts or some variety.

Contrary to public opinion not all or even most
desert/arid areas are beige colored with yellowed vegetation.
