Can't seem to find any info on the Guns of August con down in Williamsburg? Anybody know what's up?

HMS Exeter21 Jul 2017 11:30 a.m. PST

The first I heard that there was going to be a GOA was in the wrap up phase of the info on the Muster. See Blue Devil's post from 30 May.

TMP link

The only other info I have seen is from the Virginia War Museum website.

The event will be held at the Virginia War Museum in Newport News this year on August 25-27. The cost of entry is the cost to enter the museum. Chris will keep the museum open to 10PM on Friday and Saturday and it will be open normal hours on Sunday. If you would like to run a game, will place the link to the form on here.

cturnitsa22 Jul 2017 3:24 p.m. PST

Yep – it will be at the Virginia War Museum in Newport News. We are planning to be back in Williamsburg for the 2018 Muster, but this event is going to be at the Museum.

The Museum does a couple of things for us – mostly it is a public place, were we can do some outreach about wargaming, and get new members of the community interested in, and educated about miniature wargaming.

The Museum is supporting us with 20 different miniature game locations, in and around the historical display areas, and we will have our usual vendors.

The benefit for gamers is that there is no cost for the convention, other than entrance to the museum (which is $8 USD per day, and they are offering discounts for GMs).

The hours of the convention are:
Friday: noon until 10pm
Saturday: 9am until 10pm
Sunday: 9am until 5pm

If someone would like to host a game, fill out this form (link below). Or you can just PM me or Blue Devil 88, here on TMP.

Mjr Stalwart08 Aug 2017 7:32 p.m. PST

Blue Devil 88,

1) How do you get the multi day pass and,

2) do you need to pre-register and if so how?

Blue Devil 8808 Aug 2017 10:46 p.m. PST

You buy the pass at the door. Off the top of my head I can't remember what a multi-pass costs but it is cheaper than daily admission of $8 USD

There is a link above for registering games you want to run but if you want to play in a game just show up at the table prior.

Mjr Stalwart09 Aug 2017 5:03 a.m. PST

Ok. Thanks.

Blue Devil 8809 Aug 2017 6:15 a.m. PST

Three Day admission is $16 USD Adult / $14 USD Senior / $12 USD child. So you save a day's admission. This museum is chock full of goodies, if you haven't been here.

historygamer09 Aug 2017 8:10 a.m. PST

Awesome museum. Just some stunning stuff in there. IIRC, the Company of Military Historians has their collection on display there.

Mjr Stalwart09 Aug 2017 3:12 p.m. PST

Blue Devil 88, are you there Justin that's putting on the Bocage 1944 game?

Blue Devil 8809 Aug 2017 6:07 p.m. PST

Yes that is I.

Blue Devil 8809 Aug 2017 6:14 p.m. PST

Just added Thoroughbred Miniatures to our vendors list.

Mjr Stalwart09 Aug 2017 7:34 p.m. PST

I just thought it was interesting that you're doing the game with two different rules sets – Chain of Command and Force on Force.

Blue Devil 8810 Aug 2017 11:23 p.m. PST

I may stick with one but I had some folks who were interested in CoC.

Mjr Stalwart11 Aug 2017 8:18 a.m. PST

I've got some of TFL's rules sets and I've watched their YouTube series on CoC and it looks like a good set for squad/platoon size battles.

Master Caster15 Aug 2017 7:58 a.m. PST

Sorry, but I had to cancel Thoroughbred's attendance at this convention. I will be in New England due to a death in the family.

Small but successful for the museum. link

Mjr Stalwart27 Aug 2017 7:58 p.m. PST

I had a great time. Made some new friends and contacts. Got some good ideas. And the Black Powder game in the foreground poor on by Steve Preston was a blast!

Blue Devil 8827 Aug 2017 8:01 p.m. PST

Here are some photos from our convention.

Weapons Gallery. I ran a game of Chain of Command. At one end of the board (US side) was a Stuart and what you can't see is on the German side was an 88mm Flak Gun. If you ever get a chance to come down and see the Virginia War Museum in Newport News, it is a diamond in the rough. If you make a trip to Newport News come down and see it. Well worth the admission.
