My son has been taught history from early on, so I am not sure where this myth about not teaching history is coming from. CW attendance loss has a lot of reasons behind it. Mount Vernon gets about 1.1 million visitors a year. I know, I work with them all the time. Point being – it is not just one thing working against CW. But, if there was just one thing to focus on – I'd say it is cost. The tickets are expensive and if you have a family of four, you can get the colonial experience just by walking the streets, going into the shops, and dining at a tavern (very expensive). Then go to Busch Gardens the next day. Sorry, that attendance number for Busch Gardens was a typo. Busch Gardens got about 2.7 million visitors last year. Their attendance was down from a high of about 3.1 million visitors in 2008. Graying of the amusement park hobby? :-) I am not sure that CW is an apt comparison – for the above, and many other reasons. One could also attribute a drop off in attendance there for those that have to drive I-95 past Fredericksburg too. Just keeping it real. :-) |

This was my first Historicon, and with nothing to compare it to, it was excellent. I am really looking forward to next year. |
