Hi guys,

We recently got in our first game of the new edition of 40k.

Had a lot of fun and we knocked up a battle report here:

I also wrote a review of 8th ed here:

Nice reviews! Thanks for posting

I have the same impression that the 8th edition nicely compresses the rules – have yet to play my first game, but soon!

Great write up. Maybe I should take a further look into 8th edition 40k…

Nice report. Thank you for posting that, both armies look great.

I have enjoyed the games of 8th I've played so far. The only thing I wonder about is vehicles. We haven't used them yet and the rules seem a little wonky. Still if you used the old rules they would fit in with the new rules for infantry without much trouble.

Thanks guys for viewing.

Pictors, there were a few things we were worried about such as no arcs any more, no difference in facing for the vehicles etc but you know, once we got playing we just enjoyed it.

It's a different game, to be sure, but that's ok. If you're going to have a new versions it's not bad if its different, just as long as it doesn't screw with the intent of the old game and it doesn't stuff up your army etc. You still pretty much use the same tactics and a marine is still a marine etc so it worked for me.

Well that's just my opinion anyway. :^)

I guess my bigger concern with vehicles was how tough the new rules made them. A rhino, for example, takes an average of 3 hits from a lascannon before it is destroyed. In 3rd it was typically 1 or 2.

It cannot be destroyed by even a multi-melta on a single hit.

I'm not saying that is bad but it is certainly a big change and makes rhinos a lot more useful in terms of how far they are going to be able to make it across the table.

There is some change the other way in that marines with bolt guns are now effective against all vehicles.

If you were using the new rules with Horus Heresy stuff and you had Fury of the Legion going on 80 shots from a unit of marines with bolt guns would certainly do something, but with typical squads of 10 in 40K they aren't doing much, certainly not enough to make up for being able to one-shot them in earlier editions.
