Can anybody recommend sturdy, but inexpensive storage trays, boxes, what-ever---that can be stacked.
These would be for both 15mm and 25/28mm bases of figures (not for individual mounted figures).

Thank you for any help given!

p.s. If possible, include where they can be purchased.

Your best bet is ornament storage cases available around Christmas at Walmart, Target, etc. if you can't wait, take a look at the Container Store. They have a line of plastic boxes that are durable and come in several useful sizes.

First, tell me how the figures are based.

But as a general rule, the shops which sell cards usually have some sturdy boxes with internal dividers suitable for 25/28mm, while I generally hit craft shops or departments for 15mm. Plano and a couple of competitors make plastic boxes with dividers in varying depths. Shop around to find ones in which the internal compartments are just wider than your bases. Note that if you purchase with care you can find some which go exactly three across in a standard footlocker.

I have used white cardboard white literature mailers for 6mm, 15mm, 28mm, aircraft etc. They measure 11 3⁄4" x 10 3⁄4" x 2 1⁄4" and cost .50$ each, sold in bundles of 50. $12.50 USD for a 50 boxes is a pretty good price. I get them from Uline.

I'm with T Callahan. I use boxes that are bigger – 12 x 18 – and come in a variety of depths. I put micro armor and 6mm in a 1" box and make an internal shelf so I get two layers in one box.

I use a 9x12 size for smaller collections or for scenics, accessories etc.

I base all my figures on steel bases, and line the boxes with sheet magnet.

I also make up labels in Powerpoint and label each box on the sides:

I use Sterilite Clip Boxes for most of my figures. They come in several different sizes. Work great for 25/28mm A little deep for 15mms bit I use them for that too. I usually get them at Big Lots. A bit cheaper than Amazon for this size.

For storage I have a metal pigeon hole drawer cabinet and shelf space – got it at a used office furniture store

For transport – Im with Winston – I use stackable plastic containers from walmart – 3 or 5 drawer

Depending on the size, the small USPS mailer boxes will work. Since they are given out free for mailing such use may be questioned.

You could also try Harbor Freight for storage racks/boxes.

Make sure you have the 20% off coupon and free stuff coupon (free tape measure about every other month).

They stack well, they are sturdy, nice size for 15's. They do have a variety of sizes.

I make my own from two clear plastic shadow boxes from Michaels or Hobby Lobby. Available in 8-1/2 x 11 and 8x10 sizes. Put them together as a box, and use clear plastic shipping tape to make a clear hinge (both inside and out). You can place figures up to 3" high inside and they are visible at all times and protected from dust. I put them on bookshelves with labels on the end. Anytime you want to look at the figures pick up a box, you don't even have to open it.

I use the Sterilite boxes too. I have about a dozen small ones that I glued magnetic strip into and store all sorts of minis in. They are too small for 28mm mounted figures though.

Michaels sells a 12" x 12" scrapboarding case that is my standard for everything except 28mm cavalry and pikes – the dial dude even does a 2 level insert for them for 15mm figures.

I line them with sheet metal and magnetic base my figures.

Sterilte 3 drawer units lined with magnetic tape. They have two sizes I believe. I use the "regular" size not the large.

I can hold about 250 28mm figures based on 1x1" stands per unit. I can hold several hundred 15mm per unit.

I have not had issues with 28mm cavalry yet but I can see where certain figures like lancers with the lances held upright might be an issue. Even with that, the few 28mm lancer figures I have fit.

T Callahan – great idea. I was considering using boxes from Uline but I was already too far down the road with my Sterilite boxes to switch up.

I bought a larger Sterlite from Walmart that I can store my buildings in the bottom and the top two shelves are perfect for cav and Greek hopolites. I also use the same small ones that Winston uses for AWI/FWI

I've recently been converting to Sterlite "paper size" clear plastic boxes with locking lids. I get mine at Target or you can order them on-line. They'll store both 15mm and 25/28mm figures, including cavalry.
