Sharp Johnny: Warfare in the time of the Free Companies, 1360-1392AD (Campaign Theme)

Event Scale: 15mm
Rules Used: TRIUMPH! Fast play ancient and medieval battles
Maximum Players: 8
Description: Command an army using the TRIUMPH! Fast play ancient during the time of the free companies.
The Peace of Bretigny in 1360 didn't end the Hundred Year's War between England and France, but it did pause it. Large numbers of English and other soldiers became mercenaries and fought in the confused wars of the next 30 years. Some of these free companies were the Company of the Star, the Company of St. George, the Little Hat Company, and the White Company led by Albert Sterz and John Hawkwood, known as "Giovanni Acuto" or "Sharp Johnny" in Italy.
Now is the time when soldiers can rise by the might of their own arm and gain everlasting glory, wealth, and fame. Or betray your employers and violate your contracts to become notorious and feared. On the field of battle all will be wagered, won, and lost.

Ansley,
Wednesday night we had an open with 12 players.

Starting Thursday we had four demo table running every morning, and those tables were busy all weekend. I don't have the final count, but Bill Hupp might have a report later on the forum because he was giving raffle tickets to all the people that tried a demo for Thistle and Rose figures. When we were not running demos we had a lot of people come back and just open game on the tables after the demo's "officially" closed while we were running the afternoon and evening games.

Thursday day evening we had an 8 player battle of Chalons and 6 player Hyspades battle run simultaneously these were pickup games but both were full.

Friday we had 12 players in the Doubles event which is one of my favorite events next to the campaign. Then 16 players in the Open tournament that evening, a brand new Triumph player won the event.

Saturday afternoon we ran Kadesh with 8 players (Hittites won, Ramses still lived though and (she) went back to Egypt to claim victory).

We wrapped up with the Saturday night Sharp Johnny Campaign, 18 players and unfortunately had to turn a few people away because we ran out of slots. We will need to make a bigger campaign game

So overall I would say it was great a success. I am especially encouraged by the number of "completely new to ancients/medieval" and "I used to play, but have not in a long time" players we talked with that tried the rules and liked them. Also we have younger kids playing including several that brought their first armies to play in the open tournaments.

There are some pictures out on the FB site, maybe a few more will be posted on the forum once people recover from the weekend.

Excellent, I wanted to play a game or two of triumph but was trying ADLG for a day.
Good you're attracting new as well as returning players. Like the facebook pictures.
