Okay, so I dun got a Connundrum.

In '06, while still married, my wife/daughter purchased the
Tin boxed Deluxe "50th Anniversary Edition" of Forbidden Planet, complete with a "Robbie the Robot" 54mm statuette for me birthday or Christmas.

Now I only opened it once to "Ooooh and Aaaah" it, put Robbie in a display case and lovingly tucked it away.

In short, it was and still is, in near pristine condition and I never watched it because I had TCM.

Foward to 2014, divorce proceedings begin. January 2016 Divorce finalized, April 2016 I move into my new house and it takes me pretty much six months to get completely settled in.

Botton line, my GF loves Sci-Fi, but never saw FP so we started watching it the other night, beautiful movie, runs perfect…UNTIL halfway through when the get the meat of the story, Morbious's Study and Lab and the CD dies dead to death.

Nothing worked, including putting it in my two computers, etc.

This SUCKS, because there is a tonne of junque on just the first main CD and I cannot watch it, even though the CD proper is in perfect condition.

So…what do I do? Too late to contact the manufacturer (Warner Brothers) or no, this may not be an isolated incident and I can contact…you tell me!

Any and all assistance would be greatly appreciated!

Andrew

What will is cost to ask them?

Run it past them and see what they say

Agreed. Contact the manufacturer, and tell them it was sealed until the other day. See what they say.

PS. Now I wonder how many hardcore collectors out there are holding onto duds without knowing it.

Check the CD for any scratches. If it has one you can take tooth paste and a Dremel buffer and smooth it out. I have saved DVDs and music CDs this way before.

Thanks Bashy, but the CD is pristine, no surface mars at all!

Thanks Cacique and VC, I'll get in touch with somebody next week!

Can you imagine all the lawsuits if, a few years from now, all of the few remaining "mint condition" copies in expensive collections were found to be defective?

They Would do better to check batch numbers now and issue "recalls".

I assume you've done a basic cleaning. I've had new DVDs act up before, but a good cleaning set things right. If you've already tried it, then disregard, but since it's such a simple fix, it might be worth a try.

Andrew,

I'm interested to hear what you find out from them.
