I painted this little vignette this weekend for our groups 1812 Russian Campaign Project. These are all Perry figures. I was quite pleased with the results.

Well, you should be quite pleased!

I'll be honest. What immediately hit me was the basing, even more than the figures. I still do not get that right…I overdo it, I complicate it.

The grass and tufts here look……well like grass and tufts and not something from a model railway shop

To all, thank you for the kind words. Basing is definitely an art, not a science. I wish I could put forth a formula here, but, my overarching theme; "less is more" on basing. I try not to crowd too much on the base to distract from the figures.

Nice work indeed! I agree about the basing. Looks very good. I think deadhead if you go for dull colors on the tufts, stay away from the bright green leaves etc it looks more realistic. And keep em short!;) my two cents anyway..
