Here are some pictures of our 1 to 20 scale fight of Leipzig. All figures are Adler 6mm. We had more than 12,000 figures on the table.
The battle was fought to a draw! But French were able to safely withdraw to fight again. |

Would love to hear more about this – what rules? What size table? Ground scale etc? |

Rules are "Rally Round the Flag" (ACW) adapted to Napoleonics. They are for very large battles while still using 1 to 20. We have fought battles such as Gettysburg (had 16,000 figures on table), Austerlitz-15,000 figures, Borodino etc. In Leipzig battle we only fought the first day. French retired before the rest of the armies arrived. But still 12,000 figures is a lot on 6 x 36 foot table. Ground scale- 1 inch equals 25 meters. I have more than 40+ pictures, but not on blog. If you want I can e-mail some of the more "dramatic" ones. Especially when 2 Corps of Austrians arrive! |

For our 1813 Campaign we had the following Order of Battle: French: 4 Corps- 160 battalions of infantry, 5760 figures), 16 cavalry regts (256 figures), 160 gun models (320 guns). Guard Corps- 36 battalions of infantry, 1296 figures, 6 cavalry regts. 288 figures, 48 gun models (96 guns) 3 Cavalry Corps – 36 cavalry regts, 720 figures, 24 gun models Totals 7,056 inf. figs, 140,112 men, 1244 cav figs, 24,880 cav, 232 gun models, 464 guns. 160,000+ French Army. Counting gun crews and limber teams = total 10,000+ figures. Austrians had 8,000+ figures, Russians 8,000+ figures, and Prussian-Russo army had 5,000+ figures. Totals for Allies was about 21,000 figures. There were no Swedes, Bavarians, Poles, or German states troops. We used an 1813 board game to do map movement. When we fought Leipzig the Allies had not massed all their troops, because the Allied (10 players) gamers did not coordinate their movements. The French players (8 players) were the more experienced and faithfully executed "Napoleon's" orders…made huge difference. So on the first day of Leipzig the French had the advantages and the Napoleon player retired after first day before the allies could concentrate. As the campaign continued the Allies became more fragmented and eventually sued for peace. We had established a relationship with a particular hotel and rented a hotel conference room each time we needed a big battle. The relationship was such that we could set-up the day before, play the game in 12 hours and pack up the next day. The cost was only $250.00 USD for room and access before/after. It is the only way to do it…in one battle we had 2 36x6 tables in play. A lot of fun for all. P.S. My wife painted about 16,000 of the figures! "What a Wife"!…..Of course she gets a new car every 4-5 years! |
