We played our third game of 8th edition tonight. It was a fun game, we had some PDF defending the exit of a complex where the cult had holed up. Marines are sweeping through the complex attempting to clear the heretics out.

picture

Some of them make a rush for the surface and are attempting to clear the PDF and escape. It was a hard slog for the cult army. The hellblasters really demonstrated their usefulness and the Inceptors saw their first game. They also very much showed their usefulness wiping out a unit of cultists in one turn of shooting.

picture

The Genestealer Cultists gave pretty good at a couple of points and eliminated the PDF, which was part of their objective. Without the PDF at least watching the entrance some marines will now need to be committed to that, making the clearing of the complex more difficult and time consuming.

picture

A few neat things happened. The Ancient was hanging out with the PDF guys to keep their morale up. Except the Magus came and used his mental trickery to cause the Ancient to gun a couple of the little guys down.

Tricksy Magus.

The Inceptors were in reserve and took their sweet time showing up. The marines would have won a complete victory had they shown up a turn earlier.

Still they did pretty well when they got their, with their 18 shots they managed to kill 12 cultists.

picture

It was good to get them on the table but It would have been nice to have them do a little bit more. I think the next game won't involve a corridor system so they can be fielded from the start and use the whole table.

Loving the pictures, some great scenery! Looks like a fun game!

I love your battle reports, but they upset me as I don't get as much fun as you :(

Great looking game! So you are liking 8th Edition?

Pictors Studio30 Jun 2017 9:17 a.m. PST

Yeah it is pretty fun and quick. We haven't done any big games yet so they usually take about an hour to play. Mostly we have been trying to learn the new rules and how things work in them. We haven't used any vehicles yet. That will probably be the next step. I need to convert some cultists to be tank crews.

Eclipsing binaries you will have to come over for a game sometime.

Pictor's,

Nice table.

Beautiful. I'm still resisting the siren's call of 8th ed but reports like this make out tough.

I'm pleased with the terrain. The corridors are all from Fantasy Arc. I got them at Adepticon. The set that you see, plus a couple of pieces, was about $300. USD It is covering a 30x30 inch table.

With just a couple more pieces, like some of the big rooms and one more corner section you could probably significantly increase that to a 4x4, probably for only about another $100. USD

The outside part is mostly GW terrain. The ground piece is a section of their Battle Boards, the urban 40K one. The tractors and walkway are from SW:A.

The building corners are from the 3rd edition boxed set.

The cathedral pieces and the rubble is mostly Armorcast and the shipping crates are Reaper Bones, which are a steal at about $10 USD a pop.

Ordinarybass, it is a pretty good edition. The rules are way better than 7th and kind of remind me of what I thought of 3rd after it was just released.

There is some stuff in it that makes shooting a little bit more useful than in 4th edition vs. close combat but close combat isn't hosed either.

It isn't obvious that you should just be running your guys into CC anymore like it was in 3rd, which I like.

We haven't used any vehicles yet so I'll reserve judgement on that. I know we will houserule the part about vehicles killing occupants on a 1. We'll probably just use the 4+ then armour save rule.

@Ordinary Bass- C'mon over! You know you want to.
Resistance Is Futile.

I've said it elsewhere, I'll say it here: I love your Genestealer cultists.

I also covet your Fantasy Arc corridor sets. I'd love to get some, but I know myself too well to think I'll ever get around to painting them.

I DO have some of those Reaper shipping containers, though.

Great-looking table and superb miniatures, as always.

Pictors Studio03 Jul 2017 9:22 a.m. PST

The painting of the corridors was pretty fast. I sprayed them black then airbrushed them metal then did the weathering.

Assembling them is a different story. They weren't hard to assemble necessarily but it was time consuming getting them all together. I still have the entry way pieces to do but I have no idea how they go together.

Quick question, which scenario did you play? I saw a mention of reserves…
