Just imagine your carefully-painted tanks, drones, spaceships playing laser tag against each other, and moving around the terrain you've placed on your gaming table.

Perhaps even with your preferred wargame rules parameters already uploaded to them, just to make sure your commands don't exceed what is allowed in the rules. :)

Thoughts?

I think that will be a different hobby altogether and not the wargaming hobby. Similar to the distinction between computer games such as the Total War franchise and tabletop miniature gaming.

That might not work for American Revolution, unless Mister Franklin gets a huge appropriation from the Continental Congreff.

"…Continental Congreff."

Winston, LOL – that's ffunny.

There is a tank museum in southern Virginia that has a large indoor 1/16 RC Tank battlefield where they do a variant of this. More akin to a video game, but very cool.

I'm sure this could be fun and attract a lot people but it wouldn't scratch that "playing with toy soldiers" itch for me. I like the look and feel of serried ranks of painted metal figures or unpainted plastic figures. old fart

Popping baloons………………

This is a different branch definitely a not a replacement. Now 3D Holograms instead of figures, YES, THE ULTIMATE, unbreakable figures, on a full 3D holo projected board, maybe. These have been around a while. No simple way to make them work like a company, even less a battalion.

All I see is a bunch of blind stupid people.

Almost 30 years ago I met some guys that did ACW naval – firing ballbearins at each other and sinking their ships in a lake

And that differs from today how? :)

No robot lasers yet. Right now they have to console themselves with having their Fiance (Wife?) shoot them through a book, sadly he managed to procreate before being shot.

I was under the impression that I was the wargaming Norm…

I don't know? How long before folks are runnign around looking for imaginary chibi creatures that their phone tells them to search for…

Zephyr129 Jun 2017 2:42 p.m. PST

You know, at some point some joker will amp up the power of the lasers his minis use enough to ignite/melt his opponent's minis… ;-)

(Of course, those fearing that outcome should start investing in laser reflective/high temperature resistant paints… ;-)

Pretty cool !

Well it sure beats setting up my opposing forces of MARX 6" soldiers in the backyard and alternating turns throwing dirt clods at them.

tkdguy29 Jun 2017 6:02 p.m. PST

I'd use that to zap any bugs infesting my home.

Well it sure beats…

Actually, I don't think it does. ;->=

And, we used bottle rockets.

I've played with tanks that basically used Laser Tag, and there are drones that do that.

I'm good with moving my toy soldiers on the table myself.

tkdguy: Hell, no more mice!

Back in the day, there was a comic in the UK which had as one of running stories a boy who had a remote control on his wrist.

Using this, he controlled an army of tanks (Centurions, if I recall) and Brit infantry, somewhat reminiscent of the old Airfix Infantry Combat but bigger (250mm?) to beat the "bad guys". Evreything seemed to fire something like a Sekiden pellet. Think "Home Alone" with miniatures.

So the idea has, like everything on Tomorrow's World, been around a long time.

I have also shown my age.

"it went zap when it fired , and cursed when it missed and whir when it took aim…"
