"The Imperial guard inspired fear on the battlefield. They marched across Europe undefeated for the majority of their time in service. This quiz only explores a small part of their history." Easy! link Amicalement Armand

In regards to the question dealing with the Guard in 1815, it was asking about the composition and size of the Young, Middle and Old Guard but the Middle Guard was disbanded in 1814. So the answer is False. |

Did not the guard break at Marengo? Or is that open to interpretation? |
Brian Smaller | 28 Jun 2017 8:25 p.m. PST |
At the time of Marengo it was a Consular Guard, not an Imperial Guard. |
Artilleryman | 28 Jun 2017 10:11 p.m. PST |
Ah! Open to interpretation. |

Re Marengo. The question is… Which is credited as the first major battle the Napoleonic Guard took part in? Which leads me to believe they mean both the Consular Guard and the Imperial Guard under Napoleon's command. But the Napoleonic Guard is a term I have never seen before! |

10/10, although as alluded to above, with some guessing as to what the questioner meant… |

In how many battles did the Old Guard actually engage in combat, as opposed to merely being present on the battlefield? |

How frustrating. I marked the Middle Guard at Waterloo as wrong (I see 5th Lancer did the same). I also thought Guard Cavalry units had been driven back, if not actually routed…..and they cannot spell "their" |

10/10 easy although 5th lancer is right, this question is not put correctly, not only as the term middle guard was no employed in the 1815 campaign as an official title, also there was more than one division of young guard, only not deployed inb the Waterloo campaign. |

Oh dear, Only 9/10. I put Austerlitz, not Marego, as their first major battle. Rod |

8/10 – made the Austerlitz mistake too |

Only 9/10. I put Austerlitz, not Marego, as their first major battle. Me too! |

10/10 – but I would have said Austerlitz if I hadn't read the post above. |
