There are no Beserkers in A Song of Ice and Fire – they have got the wrong book.

Are these supposed to be Wildlings – with stiched together clothing? Or non-existent northerners?

They have already gotten away from the essence of the books. Why do a game based on a book and then ignore the book? Do your own setting if you don't like the one in the books.

The figures are ugly and from what I have seen of the rules they suck too. A board gamer trying to make a tabletop miniature game. The company is noted for it's bloated kickstarters and taking as much money as they can.

I was hoping the figures would be like what is in the book, but they are closer to the show. I can get more accurate to the book figures just using Old Glory 100 Year War and War of the Roses miniatures and a lot cheaper.

I'm with you Doug redshirt. You can use FireForge for the North, Perry Brother's HYW for "midland" and Perry Brother's War of the Roses for the South. You can get inexpensive plastics that match the book descriptions.

Still in looking over the figure line – some aren't bad the Dark Sword miniatures age quite good just way oversized and too expensive to build armies.

Rules too may be a problem. The books do battles pretty well and Martin is well versed in medieval history (much better than most fantasy writers) hence you want to start with decent medieval rules and add a bit of fantasy.

Not sure what if anything "Cool Mini" designers know about medieval warfare. May just give us some abstract board game design. Anyone played in a demo or have any idea what the playtest situation is?

Oh well we still have Fire and Ice…

Hmm, nice renders, but no actual sculpts.
And therefore, none of my money.

Some of the Dark Sword ASoIaF figures are great*. However they tend to be the older ones (the Lannisters, Baratheons, etc.) which predate the show and aren't based on the show depictions of the characters. Many of the newer ones are obviously based on the show, to their detriment, and/or ugly figures, which is a shame considering how beautiful some of the sculpts are.

*Very big though. Their "32mm" figures are closer to 40mm.

Agree Lord of Froth, the Dark Sword figures are huge they at first claimed to be 28mm now 32mm but are nearer 40mm in some cases.

But proportionally they are much thinner than GW so you can use heads (like the great Dog helm) on "normal" 28mm bodies.

The bad costuming of the early years of the HBO show has infected some scuplts including the lower half of those shown above. Ironically the show costuming is getting a bit better while the books representations are getting worse by being influneced by the show.

In any case if your at Historicon – come see the Fire and Ice Battle for the Throne game (and play in) lots of book correct figures – made by the Perry Brothers, FireForge and even GW.
