Hi, My young son and I bought the 7th edition "Dark Vengeance" starter set, but only played a couple of games. I was thinking of getting the 8th Edition starter set to re-boot my playing 40k. My question is, can I mix the figures from both sets to build two valid forces? (None of the 7th edition set is painted as yet if that helps). Thanks, Furgie |

I'm sure you can paint the new marines in the 8th Ed box as Dark Angels or any other chapter. The marines in the Dark Vengeance would mostly have to be Dark Angels, or the characters at least. The chaos figures may not mix as well. I may be wrong. |

Both sets can mix perfectly together. If you do the 7th edition marines as the Dark Angels they are you can use the primaris marines from the 8th as Dark Angels too. If you wanted to do another chapter the 7th edition figures would probably require some work, unless you did them as Raven Guard in which case you might be able to fit it in with the theme. So if you go with Dark Angels you would be perfectly fine with the marines. The new Chaos are Death guard and the old chaos were generic. The generic chaos guys could easily be painted as nurgle troops and while pox walkers might not be the same as cultists every chaos faction has cultists of some sort so you should be fine with those too. You could even make a generic chaos army with a nurgle component. If it were me I'd paint them all as Nurgle troops. |

I'm working on doing this now… With Dark Vengeance, I had mostly finished the Hellbrute; but never really worked on the rest of it. I did start collecting more Dark Angels. With the 8th edition set, I decided to re-start the Vengeance Chaos Marines and pair them with the Plague Marines. Plus other Chaos Marines I already had. I'm painting the main force as Black Legion, so they can be paired with anyone really. :) I still haven't decided how I want to do the Primaris Marines, so not sure if they'll be Dark Angels or Space Wolves (small army already…) :) |

The heads from regular marines will actually work on the primaris marines. So if you have space wolves you can use extra bits, including the heads, to customize them to be Space Wolves. |

There is also a 'Dark Vengeance How To Play 40K Update' booklet available (I picked one up yesterday). It has the Core Rules and 8th edition army lists for the Dark Angels and Crimson Slaughter figures in the old starter. |

The new Death Guard Plague Marine models can be used as a plague marine troops choice to build an all Death Guard army and they can also be used as a elites choice to be used to make a generic chaos space marine army. You can always mix different types of Chaos space marines together to make a valid list. This is why some units such as Plague Marines and Khorne Berserkers appear twice in the new Index books. In one case they are elite choices and in the other they can qualify as troop choices. I am also painting my new Primaris Marines to be space Wolves and I am also using left over wolf heads in place of the heads on the Primaris sprues. I hope it looks good when I'm done. These Primaris Space Wolves will most certainly be incorporated into my existing Space Wolf army. |
