Having written a scenario for the battle at Tudela, Spain, my summer project is to pull together the units I still need in order to field the two sides. One of those will be the Vistula Legion Lancers, Poles who fought with distinction in Spain and elsewhere with Napoleon's forces. These are 1/72 from Zvezda's Lifeguard Polish Uhlan set. A few more pics can be found here on my blog : link

Just spent a (sleepless) night reading through your blog again Bill – marvellous work on your Peninsula project – have you considered two things: 1) a painting guide. You have been very successful in getting some colours to work well (the white uniformed Spanish, and these lancers for example – I would love to see what colours you are using) 2) rules – the mention AoE and the. Being a bit "big", so I wondered if you had been able to consider any alternatives yet? Some nice comments currently around General d'armee, and Over the Hills for instance 3) how you make your grass mats – I assume fur but they look really good Finally, I notice you have painted your French drums with a coloured body and brass hoops – that is unusual as all the pics I have suggest brass body and painted hoops. I like the look of yours so wondered if they were based on a particular picture? Thanks for sharing Bill – great stuff (and 1/72 too – my favourite) Marc (thanks again for sharing those grenadier flames with me) |

Thanks, all for the nice comments. Marc at Work, Regarding your list :0) 1. My colours are mostly crap dollar store paints, I confess, so no real help there. I do a fair bit of mixing, have been having some nice results with light ink washes on horses and uniforms, especially with the whites I have been using these to set off belts on uniforms, etc. 2. I'm eager to get my hands on Over the Hills. 3.]Grizzly fur, spry painted with a couple of contrasting flat greens. 4. Drums – um – I confess I don't really remember. I will check my reference but you may well be right! |

Marc, Yep, I think you are absolutely right. My first Napoleonics I painted a couple of years ago were French and I believe I misinterpreted the brass for yellow – sort of took off from there! Now I have to go back and repaint all my drums. Big sigh! |

Sorry Bill, that wasn't my intention – I just liked how yours looked. Don't repaint – carry on with new units and ignore me Marc |
