How are yours based? I am struggling with my 15mm armies between 4 40x30mm stands per unit, at either 3x3 infantry or 3 cavalry per stand, or going with 2 60x30mm stands per unit, at either 6x6 infantry or 5/4 cavalry (5 heavy, 4 light) per stand. I am not sure how vital it is to have 4-stand units, but I am trying to preserve the 12-figure battalion look. |

Hi my SYW are on 30mm squares with Inf at 4 figs in 2 ranks Cav 2 figs in 1 rank with 3 bases per unit but have played with 4 bases per unit. For game we doubled ranges/moves etc but converted to CMs My Naps are on 40x30mm with 3-4 bases per unit My WSS are on 60x30mm single bases All these work find as FOB fairly flexible in this regard |

For what it's worth, when I did FOB in 15mm for ACW, I put 6 infantry (2 rows of 3) on a 1.25" square base. You can usually do this as well on a 30mm square base but that little extra room you get going to 1.25" (30mm = 1.18 inches) makes a difference. With 1.25" it's possible to stuff 3 cavalry on a base, but it may be better to make the base a little deeper (say 1.25" wide by 1.5" deep) so you can stagger the cav a bit. |

Nice looking game! I agree completely about FOB. I need look no further for a tactical level set of rules covering the 1700's thru WWI. It is our holy grail set! I also mount in a variety of ways for the rules in different periods. Some cases 3 bases and some 4. For my Crimean War figs I am thing about using 2 bases (twice as large and with about 12 figs per base) for my Russians. 3 smaller bases for my British. FOB has no problem with a wide selection of basing. I love em! |
