Just thought you would all like to know that Bill (TMP) IS reading PMs between paying members. Evidence is quite simple—I was corresponding with a TMPer when Bill actually sent me a PM asking a question about it!

Now, yes Bill has always had the capability to read PMs in the same way that Google or Hotmail could—but the protocol is that you don't. In fact, under Data Protection Act I'm guessing doing so without a court order in the UK is probably illegal, probably likewise in the US.

On the Free Cleo thread I mentioned what I call Bill??? Events—ie, those times when you think ‘Bill, what on Earth did you do/say that for?' Well, I think this qualifies.

Frankly, it has crossed a line big time. I sent Bill a PM several hours ago asking him to explain/deny (could have reached through a glitch/mistake and he answered in all innocence) This was before the daily maintenance break and he has posted since. I have not received a reply to my PM.

As such, I have to consider this proven and that my continued use of the PM system is no longer viable. Further, I likewise no longer wish to be associated with TMP and will not post any more to any thread. Anyone wishing to contact me via emails in future please do so using my GarrisonMiniatures gmail account or via TTW Or WD3

Due to the nature of the type of forum this is, it is not a violation of the law in either the UK or the USA for our PMs to be read by the site owner. Having said that I will resort to the old adage as guidance for the forum's managing team: "Just because you can, doesn't mean you should."

Actually, no.

You hit the wrong button, GarrisonMiniatures, and instead of sending a PM to someone, you sent a Complaint directly to me! evil grin

So I responded, asking what you wanted, and now you're making a complete fool of yourself…

Kelly Armstrong21 Jun 2017 9:43 a.m. PST

d'oh. surely there is a nefarious plot afoot somewhere in the kingdom.

Winston Smith21 Jun 2017 9:45 a.m. PST

You have to not care if he can read your PMs.
I've always assumed he could and correspond with that in mind.

In theory, yes; in practice, I've never built any tools to do that, so it would be a pain to do, and why bother?

"You hit the wrong button,…"

Makes sense because I have done just that several times in the past when my actual intention was to PM someone; I've alway caught the mistake and backed out of the complaint form – my fingers have always been too big/long!

Warmaster Horus21 Jun 2017 10:19 a.m. PST

Bahahaha…Bahahahaha…Oh man. It's like watching Silicon Valley, but with miniatures players. Lol. Sounds like something I would totally do, including the accusation. Man this just made laugh/cringe

I think most internet users in the US at least, have a misconstrued notion of what is private, even for something labeled "Private Message". Even though accidental, it might be a good thing to highlight that very little, if any is actually private.

Someday I'll figure out how to post a picture on this site but in the meantime just imagine a meme of a face-palm. ;-)

As long as the Editor does not jump in to undercut bids for items on the Marketplace boards, I do not care. He snakes that cheap set of Hasselfree miniatures out from under me, that means war!

It's quite easy, just follow the instructions here:

Like this:

MajorB: Everybody says it's "quite easy" but for some reason I have never been able to post a picture even following those instructions step by step. I'm not completely computer illiterate either, but some reason it doesn't work for me. So for now, I've given up trying. Perhaps, if I ever get some figures painted up really nicely I may try again. Who knows. (but thanks for the encouragement)

You know, my mother was a telephone operator just after WWII. She always told me never to say anything over the phone--private line or no--that I wouldn't mind having broadcast on the radio. I've found this to be good advise in the Internet Era as well.

A pity more of our public figures weren't raised that way. (Here's a hint, guys: just work on the assumption that the mike is on, that not everyone in the crowded room is on your side, and the purely personal video will be a lot more public when you least want it to be. Amazing how many people still haven't worked this out.)

rustymusket21 Jun 2017 2:38 p.m. PST

So, getting back to miniatures and military history, what was the period that Grenz troops wore a brown coat? Thank you! (I am hoping during 1809.)

Garrison Miniatures' account is now locked. That should come as a surprise to nobody. It's what we have come to expect here.

Seems to me that he owes the Editor an apology.

+1 to that

I assumed that is what he wanted when he said…

I likewise no longer wish to be associated with TMP…

If that is not what he wanted, he can email me and let me know.

You hit the wrong button, GarrisonMiniatures, and instead of sending a PM to someone, you sent a Complaint directly to me!

My memory was incorrect. What actually happened is that he received an email telling him that he had a new PM at TMP, and he mistakenly replied to that email.

Email from Garrison

(I did not redact his email address, as I believe that is his public email for business.)

I then replied, "What do you mean?"

Can everyone put their dice down, and step away from the table for a moment?
Deescalate the conflict, wind it back a bit?
This hobby is small enough as it is, I don't want to lose anyone's input.

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian22 Jun 2017 4:41 a.m. PST

He can come back any time he wants to, I'm just waiting for his apology… grin

Personal logo Editor in Chief Bill The Editor of TMP Fezian22 Jun 2017 11:38 a.m. PST

This should have been handled in camera, with the original post being deleted and the complaint dealt with in private.

Impossible, since he posted it to multiple forums.

But the facts are clear – he was mistaken. This never had anything to do with anybody reading PMs on TMP.

Who asked this joker22 Jun 2017 1:40 p.m. PST

Well, there goes another satisfied customer.

Silent Pool22 Jun 2017 2:32 p.m. PST

Impossible, since he posted it to multiple forums

And yet, when you are contacted in camera you then proceed to post the issues raised to multiple forums.

It's difficult to know what the correct policy really is.

jdginaz22 Jun 2017 5:12 p.m. PST

"Well, there goes another satisfied customer."

His "satisfaction" is his own fault by jumping to conclusion without making sure what really happened

And yet, when you are contacted in camera you then proceed to post the issues raised to multiple forums.

For goodness sakes, do not conflate your issues with his issue.

Actually, when I had a problem with someone PMing me, Bill asked me to forward the content of the mail, as he didn't have the ability (I said "didn't", not "couldn't") to read PM's between members.

I PM Bill sometimes … and he does not reply … So I take that as a "No" vote .. evil grin

I do know he is busy, and I get him not replying or just thinks my PM to him is "dumb", not worth wasting time replying, etc. I get it … I'm not upset … life goes on … evil grin

We disagree as often as we agree. If not more. And without much fan fair we agree to disagree. With little to nothing said sometimes. Again, it's Bill's backyard, party, show, game, etc. But that may be just my take.
